Guys and Dolls

While out to dinner with my wife last night, a tune came over the restaurant's sound system that took me back in time.

It was the title tune from the Broadway musical...

...Guys and Dolls

When you see a guy reach for stars in the sky
You can bet that he's doing it for some doll.
When you spot a John waiting out in the rain
Chances are he's insane as only a John can be for a Jane.
When you meet a gent paying all kinds of rent
For a flat that could flatten the Taj Mahal.
Call it sad, call it funny.
But it's better than even money
That the guy's only doing it for some doll
.

Other tunes from this record that stick in my memory...

Fugue for Tinhorns
The Oldest Established
A Bushel and a Peck
Adelaide's Lament
Luck Be a Lady
Sue Me
Sit Down You're Rocking the Boat
Marry the Man Today

...This record was part of my Dad's collection and have fond memories of hearing it as a kid.

This musical is based on Damon Runyon styled NYC criminal/gambling characters of the 30s.
The film version starred Marlon Brando, Frank Sinatra, Jean Simmons and *Sheldon Leonard
*(later became producer and/or director for hit TV Shows - Danny Thomas, Dick Van Dyke, Andy Griffith, My Favorite Martian and I Spy )

Don't expect very many folks to have even heard of this, but who knows.
I got a kick out of hearing it again after so many years.

I saw it at the West End with Jane Krakowski and Ewan Macgregor last year. Went out and bought the movie the next week.
