Lachey files for 'fair' share

Nick Lachey wants what's his, and maybe what's Jessica Simpson's.

In court papers filed Friday in response to Simpson's Dec. 16 divorce filing, Lachey said he was reserving the right to seek spousal support, even though she has asked the court not to give him any.

The singing couple, who starred in their own MTV reality show, "Newlyweds: Nick & Jessica," had no prenuptial agreement.

He cited irreconcilable differences for the dissolution of the three-year marriage.

The 32-year-old Lachey also asked the court to confirm that "miscellaneous jewelry and other personal effects" are separate property, as well as his earnings from after the date of separation and other unspecified assets.

He said they separated Dec. 13, although she claims it was Nov. 23.

Cincinnati-bred Lachey, who gained fame as a member of the boy band 98ยบ, had more earning power when the couple wed in October 2002. However, Simpson's fame skyrocketed during the marriage. The 25-year-old singer-actress reportedly earned more than $30 million last year, including earnings from her big-screen debut playing Daisy Duke in "The Dukes of Hazzard" movie.

Good for him! She's was almost a nobody before the show anyway, and if I recall it was a "two man show" then. Besides, he was the bigger star when they married, and he didn't make her sign a prenup, so she should be thankful.

Bitter. He's really just bitter that he didn't become the big star from that show and since he made the theme song, he obiviously did. Both have their seperate careers and our at least moderatly succesful. Neiter should do this (and the only reason you're cheering him is because you hate Jessica Simpson).

I don't hate Jessica at all, but I don't think she has much musical talent either. Her real talent lies with her whiter than white smile and those big double D's. Anyway - she told Nick she would not sign a prenup before they were married. Nick's lawyers had put one together, but when she wouldn't sign it, he still agreed to marry her. Now that she's got all the money, I think he's entitled to his fair share just as she would be if things were the other way around.

Agreed. When they first got together he had more industry clout than she did. He made more dough. He did what an old fashioned husband does and supported his wifey. She's the bigger breadwinner now, but she shouldn't forget that her label had her singing to tracks in malls while he was in the studio with Mariah Carey making hits. He may be a "has-been" from the whole teen scene, but he was very active and consistently working at the beginning of their relationship and I don't think that should be ignored. It's not like the dude pulled an Eric Benet or something lol

My boyfriend lived next door to the Lacheys (his dad and stepmom). Until just a couple months ago.. Nick bought Dad a $300,000 + house in one of Cincinnati nicer neighborhoods (Nick was in town late december and we saw them moving stuff out) so Nick cant be hurting that bad.

Dad lived in this crappy house all along... I was wondering why Nick wasnt sharing the wealth. It was only after the split he bought Dad a house.

Kinda sucks ..no more Nick sightings out the window anymore. mad

Nick is a total pussy for doing this. Weak, dude. Seriously weak. If you truly loved someone, why do you seek revenge on them by going after what they have? Man up, Nick.

personally i don't like jessica, i think she's a spoiled brat and nick deserves better. its only natural, that some people get bitter and try to tear the other person apart when they break up. their hurt and want the other to feel it in some kind of way. shrug their just as passionate about tearing that person apart as they were about being in love. sucks but those are the breaks folks

Well I can't stand that chick. She annoys the hell out of me. Not a huge Nick Lachey fan either, but if she didn't sign the pre-nup that he initially asked her to then too bad so sad.

Besides they were both on that crappy show and he just had to be embarassed at how much of a dig-bat she came off as.

What the fuck did this guy do to deserve any money? She is lame, but she had the big tits and shook her ass for the cash, that Nick now wants. Does anyone think MTV wanted to sign just him for that lame ass reality flick? Shit, his days as a rock icon were long passed. I bet the judge won't give him shit, except maybe a bus token and a food stamp card.

I agree with everything you said except for him being a "rock icon". He's a second rate back street boy at best.

Interestingly enough, I heard today that her FATHER, who seems to be extremely controlling, was the one who advised her NOT to sign a prenup before they got married. I'm sure that's who is telling her NOT to share what she's made with him. It's clear why he didn't want her to sign back then. Funny how things change, huh?

I don't like the fact that a man is asking a woman for money because I think that's just tacky. However, seeing that she would've been doing the same to him if the roles were reversed, I do hope he gets 1/2. But he should give the money to charity or something but, will he. NO. He'll continue to be out in the clubs and spending that money on his new girlfriends. Tacky!
