I owe Siedah Garrett an apology Like many others I was absolutely devastated when N'Dea left BNH. But being a fan of this band I bought Shelter and I think I listened to it all of 2 times and didn't care for it.
When I heard this album I tore Siedah Garrett to shreds and basically felt "how dare she try and replace N'Dea" cuz to me it was nowhere near the same. N'Dea is what made that band and she will always be what made them. She was the gas to their engine. Anyway I was real disappointed in Siedah's voice because you cannot even compare the two. Fast forward about 8 years and I was browsing for music and saw "Shelter" sitting there and thought I should give it another chance. And I guess I just needed some time to get over N'Deas departure because he voice is nowhere near as bad as I remembered in my head. Actually quite the contrary, it was good. And the songwriting on this album is among the strongest that they have ever done. I would put this as a classic among the first 2. BNH kinda fell downhill after that but I am such a fan of this band that I think I'd buy an album of farts set to their music : ) 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I never warmed up to Siedah - on her own, with MJ or fronting Brand New Heavies. Just never really dug her voice.

Maybe if The Brand New Heavies added singing sensation Ciara...

I agree, Shelter has gotten better as the years gone by. My first reaction to it was that it was too middle-of-the-road, too adult contemporary. The songs were missing the spunk and personality of their first few albums. Siedah Garrett's voice is pleasant, but I think N'Dea's was more vibrant.
N'Dea needs to put out another album, period. I loved her solo album, but I would be just as elated to hear her work with BNH again.

I love that woman's voice. Even on days I don't seem to like it.

I felt the same way when I heard Siedah was joining BNH. I didn't dislike her but didn't see how she would fit with the band. But Shelter is easily one of the most played BNH albums. I love N'Dea to death (what happened to her, by the way?) but Shelter is pretty strong. The title track, ran Crying Water in the ground, Highest High and the mellow After Forever. Man, I love that album. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

The first time I had heard the Brand New Heavies was with Shelter and I loved it. Then I went back and found a previous album - can't remember which one it was but I was disappointed with it just based on my comparison of it to Shelter. I'm going to see what else I can find by them because that was a while ago, and I still enjoy listening to Shelter. Any recommendations?

I love Sometimes by Brand New Heavis. Really cool song. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really donĀ“t like the idea that he could have it all."

There's multiple compilations from BNH that have come out over the years, with alternate takes, unreleased tracks, etc... though Remixes,Rarities, & Excursions is probabbly the most solid of them all. I almost forgot about that album till I was looking around for BNH stuff on Amazon.

Brother Sister is another good one but their self-titled is the one with their biggest hits Dream Come True, Never Stop and Stay This Way. Been gone for a minute, now I'm back with the jump off

To me Siedah's best work was the background vocals on Michael Jacksons "Man In The Mirror" She's got a good voice but her career was average at best.

I like I Just Can't Stop Loving You. She's lucky, I wish I could've sang that with him. I think after she left the Bad tour Sheryl Crow sang it with him.

At the time i bought this cd-single from her solo-debut , because of a great re-mix on it . I believe this was their latest joint . Anyone here has ever seen the "Don't Look Any Further" duet/videoclip of Siedah with Dennis Edwards ( Temptations ) ? It's funny because in the beginning of the clip , Dennis is remarkably chewing on a gum and gives an overacted wink in the camera ... one 4 the books ! . . . [Edited 2/19/06 4:43am]
