Kanye Records Charity Song with Michael Jackson
February 27, 2006

Roc-A-Fella artist Kanye West is reportedly recording a song with the King of Pop himself, Michael Jackson, to raise money for the Hurricane Katrina relief fund.

The two are said to be working on the charity song “I Have This Dream” in an undisclosed studio in London, said Island/Def Jam chairman Antonio “L.A.” Reid. The single -- which features appearances by Snoop Dogg, R. Kelly, Ciara, Keyisha Cole, and the O’Jays -- is set to be released in the middle of March.

In related news, Kanye publicly refuted claims that he is a ‘sex addict,’ as reported by Playboy magazine. In a recent issue West told the magazine about his adult film and website fetish, saying that it is so severe that he has to have porn on him “at all times.”

On Monday, Feb. 20, West told fans on his UK tour that the reporter inflated his comments. “You sit down with these F ! % K I N G journalists and the second you say what you think, they use it against you,” he told the crowd at his London concert.

Itr's getting to the point where it's like, who cares. Katrina happened the better half of a year ago. Who cares.

Over 1,000 dead, 80% of homes lost. Let me ask you, how would you feel if a tornado completely ripped apart your community? I am sure that it is a trailer park but it is still a community. How would you feel 6 months later? Would you want the nation to forget about you and the people who perished?

Oh please... First, your "trailer trash" comment is ridiculous. Anyway, seems like the "who cares" comment is directed at MJ and his alleged charity single, not at Katrina victims.

Second, if anyone is letting down Katrina victims, It's MJ. MJ is the one who said he'd put out a single to help them...now it's 6 months later and he hasn't delivered a thing. And no it is not normal for such a project to take so long.

Did FunkJam ever publicly promise to make one? And keep promising to have it out soon (either personally or via a spokesperson)? And would it be something that FunkJam has done before, and could reasonably be expected to do again in a timely fashion?

Wow, look at all the criticism of Prince on this site. How dare we!! It's not like any of us can record great records like [your fave Prince record here], or play several instruments so well we could record entire albums on our own, or attract thousands of people to a concert. So we should never criticize him, right?

This is the same Michael Jackson that took 3 months to do Thriller. lol This is the same Michael Jackson who between 1978 and 1982 put out 4 albums with and without his brothers and he managed to squeeze in two extensive tours too.

Now this is the same Michael Jackson that takes 6 month to do one single which is suppose to be for something that happened quite a while ago. I know the ardent fans will say it all to do with Michael being a "perfectionist", just like they tend to believe that all the albums from Bad onwards were better than OTW and Thriller because they took years to produce due to Michael's "Perfectionism". neutral

Time is of the essence. There comes a time when the ego and perfectionism has to be put on the shelf especially when you intend to help others. If he's got this amazing vault of material, could he not pluck a song from it, change a word here or there if need be and put it out or re-record it by himself and put it out? While getting permission, taking care of legalities and coinciding schedules with other artists, musicians or whatever people are still homeless.

Well first of all, thank you for clarifying what the post "seems to say". The post is pretty clear and direct, ending with "who cares". If this was not the intent of the post then it was poorly worded.

The fact is there are many people from New Orleans, myself included, that are offended by the "who cares" attitude of many people. Many people do not hesitate to visit New Orleans for the Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, etc, but turn the other way when they see the city nearly destroyed with a thousand lives lost. Maybe you should take another look at the post and determine what is "seems to say".

They are better because that's what you think, not because it is necessarily a fact. Just like it is not a fact that the longer an album takes the better it will be. But so many ardent MJ fans have this illogical notion that the longer he takes the better the song/album will be or the more "perfect" it will be,

I personally believe the longer he takes the more sterile and contrieve the music sounds, IMO of course.
