Screw you. 3121 seems like it's gonna be the bomb. I'm just glad Steely Dan didn't wait 2 decades to release a follow up to that comeback album they dropped in 2001(?) I'm not gonna front, I forgot the name of it lol. If one were to have asked me a couple of yrs ago I coulld've told you though, honest.

Anyways, Steely Dan is one of my favorite bands on the strength of A Decade of Steely Dan, Aja, Two Against Nature and Everything Must Go. I've been buying a lot of the Dan's back catalogue, and I still feel that way. But I must say a couple, like Pretzel Logic, are very challenging. I'm really liking The Royal Scam. Like Prince, they melded many influences into a distinct sound. And their arrangements are flawless. Few bands, on their best day, could make an album composed of "Black Cow," "Aja," "Deacon Blues" and "Peg." Then, late in their careers, make great songs like "Almost Gothic" and "Pixeleen." Fagen's new joint drops next month. I'M THE ONE WHO STARTED A THREAD ON CAROLYN LEONHART!!! Steely Dan
Steely Dan STEELY DAN. my favorite group since I started to appreciate their BRILLIANCE back in '86. there are SO MANY things I love & appreciate about their music - for example, most of their songs have aged very well. I liked most of everything must go when it came out almost 3 years ago (DAMN - has it been almost THREE YEARS already???) but the more I play that cd now, the more I appreciate it. my TOP FIVE Steely Dan songs, currently : 5. pretzel logic 4. green book 3. sign in stranger 2. peg 1. JANIE RUNAWAY. in fact, let me change this to say that until they put out something BETTER (which is, indeed, possible) JANIE RUNAWAY is PERMANTLY my favorite Dan song. then.. for your reading pleasure.. here is a link to the Steely Dan listing on wikipedia - it's a good read in case you haven't read it already : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steely_Dan double helix in the sky tonight throw out the hardware let's do it right.. I'll see you tonight..

Janie's friend "Melanie" helped inspire the naming of our 2nd daughter (Melanie, of course). Even though Mel's role in the song isn't something I hope our kid ever does... Just thought it was a pretty name, and Donald deemed it worthy of mention too. Can't beat that

Glad to see SD getting so much love! It's funny, cause I recently got a lot of my cd's out of storage, including the whole SD catalog, and I'd been jamming on it when I saw this thread!
Unlike cliched tripe like "Butterfly", whose lyrics have been posted on these boards with reverence, these guys write intelligently and the music is amazing. Here's a great set from "Kid Charlemagne": Clean this mess up or we'll all end up in jail those test-tubes and the scale just get them all out of here is there gas in the car? yes there's gas in the car I think the people down the hall know who you are Careful what you carry "cause the man is wise You are still an outlaw in thier eyes GREAT STUFF!
