The Most Bizarre Music I've Ever Heard

...and I'd like to share.

I was absent-mindedly browsing some mp3 blogs yesterday afternoon when I came across the oddity that is The Doopees...

None of their stuff is in-print anymore. Their 'Doopee Time' album appears to sell for £60.00 used and the 'Dooits!' e.p. sells for around £20.00. If I had £80.00 at my disposal, I'd snap them up right now.

Anyway, this mp3 blog stated that they were sharing all of the album and most of the e.p. - which wasn't true. A few tracks were missing from the album and a couple from the e.p. Aside from that, most of the mp3 files were named incorrectly but I managed to re-name and re-tag them all by identifying the track times.

Now, as for the actual music... It's beyond description. It's unbearably cute and shiny to the point of being sinister - but fun.

Imagine a mix between the Pizzicato Five, Burt Bacharach, Yoko Ono and De La Soul. Even that description fails to sum up their sound - it's indescribable.

The act appears to be a front for a Japanese experimental composer called Yanni Tomota. Each track is accompanied with comments by two Japanese fem-bots named Caroline Novac and Susie Kim - I'm guessing these aren't their real names...

The song, 'Dooits!' starts with a modulated acid bass-loop and a sampled jazzy drum-roll. Susie witters over the top of this, that it's "kind of loud". Caroline replies, "You can say that again... Jesus!". There's a sound of distant thunder and then some bluegrass guitar-picking. The fem-bots start to croon "Do it! Do it! Do it! Do it!" and a cow moos. Susie excitedly squeals, "Hai, Doopees dance!" repeatedly.

Another track called 'Medical Service' features an English voice discussing research into cancer whilst techno bleeps and gurgles randomly play. The Doopee fem-bots are non-plussed but note that their "hair is starting to float"...

Here's a link to 'Introducing The Doopees Album, "Doopee Time"':

If anybody's interested, I'll upload the rest.

I'm uploading right now. The album has a cover of an obscure Ronnettes B-Side called 'How Does It Feel'. It's completely out-there. It sounds like a marching band conducted by Serge Gainsbourg trampling over your head.

Yeah. The track I uploaded is just basically an advert featuring snippets from the album.

There's a lovely track which is just a steel-band playing and features no fem-bot wittering whatsoever. Then again, there's another track which is just a vinyl record scratch looped over and over, whilst Susie Doopee moans, "Yay... Give me some more"...

I don't mind uploading it - I think it's important to share out-of-print albums for the sake of future generations. smile

Rapidshare is just being really slow today, though.

Justin, couldn't use the rapidshare link (for some reason that site hates me) mad but am sure it's great.

I've always wanted to hear that 1st John Frusciante album as there's a track that River Phoenix appeared on sad

Anyhow, thought you'd get a real kick out of this cuz it's really cute. When this was filmed this little girl was only three years old! She's adorable:

My cousin's been having problems with Rapidshare recently. His ISP is BT Online and I'm beginning to suspect that the ISP is blocked by Rapidshare.
