Queens of the Stone Age

Right. I think I bungled my attempt to have people discuss the relative merits of creative musicians they're listening to other than Prince, and I apologise if I upset or offended anyone. (posted something on the Prince Forum, people got hot under the collar - me included).

With that out of the way:
Am I right in thinking Queens of the Stone Age a good, nay, great band, and Josh Homme, and his growing output, a magnificent creative force?

Don't know much from them, but what I know I find amazing. A welcome fresh sound and songwriting besides all this totally forgettable mainstream "rock" songs nowadays.

I like 'em. Dave Grohl's kind of a tool, but Josh Homme can be dreamy love

Isn't that guy with the cowbell Will Ferrell?

Well, I'm glad someone agrees with me... it's a relief to know my ears still occassionally work.

Dave Grohl a tool, however, I find this remark curious. In what way is he a tool?

I've yet to hear my Kyuss, to be honest, so I can't say much about them. Queens are fabulous and the 're'-inventivenes they bring to each album has only served to further their appeal, as far as I'm concerned.

Oh, and Minneapolisgenius, thanks.

If Hall and Oates were just comin out, yeah, I think this is what they'd sound like. You don't think he has a decidedly Darryl Hall inflection, especially on "Of the bodies piled up in your way..."?

Um, no. lol

Anyway, "Mosquito Song" from Songs for the Deaf is just beautiful. cloud9 It's one of those I can listen to over and over again. I love how it just builds and more layers keep piling on: accordion, violin, piano, the military sounding drums, horns, etc. Then it goes into a sort of tango-esque bit, then onto flamenco guitar. Just perfection.

Yes. I'm thinking of "She's Gone" Hall and Oates. "Sara Smile" Hall and Oates. "Rich Girl" Hall and Oates. I don't listen to any recent stuff of theirs if that's what you mean. Did they suddenly pull a 180 and get into the heavy rock scene? lol

Are we even talking about the same band here???? whofarted

QOTSA are fantastic, all of their albums are worth checking out. I didn't catch on to them till Songs for the Deaf, but Rated R has become my favorite of their so far.

Side note with Foo Fighters regarding HIV, they did some shows to raise money for a group that studies the theory that HIV doesn't exist. That was back in 2000, who knows if they still feel that way today.

I love Foo Fighters, but it seems like they are transitioning into an arena rock band, not sure what to make of them these days.

I'm not a dude. And you said, "If Hall and Oates were just comin out, yeah, I think this is what they'd sound like." You didn't specify that you were just talking vocals. shrug

lol And he also said, "They have a song called Tangled in Plaid that sounds like a new Hall and Oates track." That implies a whole song, not just vocals. Anyhow, I don't think they sound too much alike in the vocal department either.

I said Darryl Hall inflection. Inflection implies voice. Drums and guitars don't have inflections. They have accents and tones. Anyway, when did this become an eighth grade debate team convention. I'm offering an opinion that this song is dope and here's why I think it's dope. It makes me think of Hall and Oates. Let it go.

There's nothing to let go. It's a difference of opinion. It happens. Just explaining where the initial confusion came from. Your point made perfect sense after you explained it.

Yep, it was a bonus track that was released online via their website, a few years ago. If you had the One by One cd, you were able to download the track from their site.

It's a pretty straightforward cover, fun to listen to. They also did a really cool cover of Vanity6's "Drive Me Wild"

I just saw the video for Drive Me Wild on Youtube, but I was lookin for Appolonia. There's like no clips of Appolonia on that site. Vanity's aight, but Appolonia is the embodiment of sex. Prince knew how to pick em', boy.

Anyway, I think it's dope how there's that little enclave of cool pholks and they all do stuff together sometimes: Grohl and Foo Fighters, QOTSA and Tenacious D and sometimes Will Ferrell and Ben Stiller and the Wilsons and Vince Vaughn. That's just dope.
