I'm seeing Rose Royce in concert this weekend (Appreciation thread)

Rose Royce is one of the nine acts that are featured on the "Valentines Super Oldies Love Jam" concert that makes its' way to my area on Saturday.I've been to many of these concerts in the past, and when Rose Royce is on the bill, you KNOW you're gonna get a great performance. These guys are incredible!! They don't have the original female lead singer (Gwen Dickey),but trust me,they still put on a killer show.I always go crazy when they perform the wistful "Wishing On A Star",a song that blows my mind every time.Other favorite songs:

"I'm In Love (And I Love The Feeling)" (1978)
"You're On My Mind" (1976)
"Zig Zag" (1976)
"Love Don't Live Here Anymore" (1978)
"You're My World,Girl" (1977)
"Car Wash" (1976)
"Is It Love You're After" (1979)
"Golden Touch" (1981)
"Doesn't Have To Be This Way" (1986)
"I'm Going Down" (1976)
"I Wanna Get Next To You" (1976)

what are your favorite Rose Royce songs?

I believe you're going to have a good time, but I dunno, David. It's Gwen's voice that made me a fan. It's like Zapp with no Roger...not happenin' for me. Glad you brought them up, because I was just listening to this album and considered a thread on it:

It's a shame most people not in the know are only familiar with Car Wash. I can't stand to listen to that song anymore. lol Some acts can do either ballads or uptempo, but Rose Royce are one of a good handful of R&B acts that can really work all angles of a song. Theirs are some of the best soul ballads:

Wishing on a Star
Ooh Boy
I'm in Love (And I Love the Feeling)
You're My World Girl
I Wanna Get Next to You
I Wonder Where You Are Tonight
I'm Going Down
Love Don't Live Here Anymore

My favorite dance tunes from them:
You Can't Please Everybody
Funk Factory
Love, More Love
(hot!)
First Come, First Serve
Pop Your Fingers
It Makes You Feel Like Dancin'
Is It Love You're After

I have this greatest hits set, and I love it:

My Yahoo Music Engine plays this compilation, and it's terrible!

I miss Gwen too,but believe me,the current lead singer,Ricci Benson,is great! She's sassy with alot of attiude too. Before singing one of the songs (I think "Love Don't Live Here Anymore"?),she goes into this long spoken intro that is just wild, lol.I love her!

There is a Live DVD and CD from 1995 that features Ricci, check it out!

Re-recorded hits. Blech! The allmusic entry on that album gives it 4 out of 5 stars and doesn't even mention that they're re-recorded. I wonder if they even listened to it!
lol

it's funny you mentioned Zapp.I saw them last year at our Super Oldies concert, and of course they were without Roger. They put on a cool show, but it just wasn't the same without Roger.

See, good concert line-ups like that hardly ever come to my area, and when they do, they are very poorly attended. If it ain't rap, blues, or gospel, these dead folks down here ain't studying it.

Anyway, my favorites are:

Car Wash
Golden Touch
I'm Going Down
I Wanna Get Next To You
Love Don't Live Here Anymore
Wishing On A Star

I know there are least two more uptempo ones I like but I can't think of the name of them to save my life.

did you ever get the "Super Soul Legends Live" DVD? I bought it at the concert last year and it's also being sold on the itprecords.com site. The Delfonics' performance is funny (lol),they perform a version of "Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time" that lasts for about 18 minutes,lol....they even add some reggae sounds! It's oddly appealing.

Yeah,I know. The lead singer of Delfonics sounds like he is struggling to hit those high notes.Fortunately, the audience will sing along with them,to cover up the embarrassing notes, lol. In my area, the audiences are LOUD and very lively.

You going to the show in your area? It's this weekend too, right? Tierra is on the bill.
