I fully agree with that statement. This was the album that not only made Janet was worldwide, household name, but it was the album that made Jimmy and Terry two of the most greatest producers in pop history. Control was another benchmark in the Minneapolis pop sound that artists like Prince and The Time was employing in their music at the time. My fave track on that whole album would have to be the classic ballad, Funny How Time Flies (When You're Having Fun), probably one of her most underrated songs ever, imo. I do believe, though, she peaked artistically and conceptually with her 1997 masterwork, The Velvet Rope. Check me out and add me on:

I'm pushing to pump out a thread weekly. I want to set dates, but there's so much research that goes into it. I have to actually confirm and double-check certain information. But I will play it by ear. Do expect the "Nasty" thread, this Sunday, though. "retrospective" edit. . [Edited 2/8/06 9:57am]

[Edited 2/11/06 13:42pm] I've been blasting Control non-stop on my iTunes for a few weeks now. And I've been watching the Design of a Decade DVD a lot with all the Control videos. This was an incredible era, man. The impact she made on pop music when she dropped this album was mega. I can almost re-live everything through the artifacts.

That looks really awesome! Looks like vintage POP ART -- something Andy Warhol would do. That would make an awesome T-shirt design. I'm actually trying to get a high-def picture of the Control album cover so I can put it on a black or white shirt and rock it! That's my latest mission. . [Edited 2/11/06 18:37pm]

Lawd, I still play "What Have You Done For Me Lately?" like crazy, still.
And JANFAN, I'm glad to see you're back! It brought a tear to my eye when you had left earlier. But all's well! *hugs* And those images Cee posted, I think I'll turn those into a little Andy Warhol-esque wallpaper. Ooh, little darlin' if you're

Did she take Control or was she lucky enough to be handed over to the right producers? [Edited 2/11/06 20:36pm]

I love Control only because it opened the door for one of my favorite album in the world, Rhythmn Nation. I know folks vote Velvet Rope as her masterpiece, but Rhythmn Nation by all means to me is THE PERFECT ALBUM and it really sealed the deal on what Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis can do. Just my opinion.

Did she take Control or was she lucky enough to be handed over to the right producers? oh come on...sure it was jam & lewis's production savy and skill that lead to Control..but without Janet's 'tude and style there would be no landmark.. folks on a prince site should all understand the importance of image.
