Do you own Nevermind?

I never got it. It got to the point where I always felt "ah its too late to even bother getting it" if that makes any sense. To music lovers it ownt make sense becasue music is timeless, but, this was one of those zeitgeist records. The same with Born In The USA.

Both of these were so played I never bothered.

I know exactly what you mean about that one. Born In The USA is a good comparison too.

I only bought my own copy of Nevermind end of last year. My sister had it, my friends had it, I heard their songs everywhere, I saw the Classic Albums documentary...

Then I realized it's one of those albums I can listen to all the way through, so I decided to buy it.

Yeah, personally I can't listen to it all the way through, but I like the album. I think a lot of the tracks are worthy of listening to. However, I don't spin it much at all. I'm more into pop/funk/r&b right now...MJ..Prince..George Michael...and Nirvana would totally clash with it. So no Nirvana for me right now - but the album is "one of those albums" like you pointed out. razz

I thought everyone owned Nevermind. How can you not own it? Classicness. One of rare albums you can spin from start to finish.

I think Nevermind isn't necessarily "had to be there" zeitgeist album.

I think Dookie by Green Day would fit that description though.

I guess I do feel like Nevermind is timeless AND era-defining.

I don't really listen to it anymore, but I do have all of Nirvana's main albums. Went through some big phase in college, but I still loved them... and it's fun having them next to New Kids On The Block in my alphabetised CD collection to confuse people biggrin

Yes I have it, I like it and wore the Tee shirt. I was contemplating buying the boxset and In Utero but came to the conclusion that I'm not that deep of a fan, but my mind can change at any time.

I have it, but haven't listened to it in a long time. I haven't been in a Nirvana-type-mood in awhile although it's one of the rare albums that I really like every track.

Me too, and I thought it was the greatest album I was ever gonna hear in my life the first time I listened to it. No album has ever hit me harder. I played it more last year than I have since maybe 1992 and it's still perfect for me. Can hardly believe it's going to be 15(!) years this year since it came out.

It's one of those albums that ACTUALLY lives up to the hype.

(Which is a rarity, I feel)

Listen to it and it makes you feel alive.
Shut up already, damn.

I may be oversteppoing my bounds but I think Kurt adored Prince. Prince was the kind of person image wise that Kurt was in many aspects meaning not being alout and beer drinking neamderthal and able to express emotions as a male. He hated the irony of his audience becoming just that when they hit it big.

I think Kurt would have been drawn to Prince person wise.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who kinda thinks that.

There seem to be a few things that make me think that. Even the word play I've always thought was a bit simillar to Prince.

They seem to have a simillar sense of humour and irony in their lyrics.

It's just that I've always got the impression that prince REALLY didn't like Nirvana because he said something about not singing about teenage angst forever.

Have I got that right or is it something that I've mis-interpreted?
Shut up already, damn.

I have every Nirvana album EXCEPT Nevermind... simply because as you said it was so PLAYED for me over many years... just a CLASSIC... but also because my fiance owns it so it's never far from reach.

I was thinking of buying a vinyl version a few months ago though.

Big Nirvana fan.

Now just wait for Mazerati to come along and tell us how "Kurt ruined rock music forever!!!" lol

I've heard all their other albums too but those seem to be only good for nostalgia purposes, like Hole's Live Through This plays nowadays.

I have it, but I bought it very late (2001). In my opinion, the album has a great energy that still holds up.

Dave Grohl is a big Prince fan, so it wouldn't suprise me of Kurt was too. Though I thought I thought I read on here at one point that Prince was a little miffed at all the hype over Nevermind, since he was gearing up to make his comeback with Diamonds & Pearls around that time.
