Can we really define Biggie, Tupac or anybody from the Wu as old-school? When I think old-school I think pre-1990 at least.

I grew up in the 80s, so my favorite-old-school list is kind of the "second wave." In the case of acts like SNP, I'm talking about stuff like "Hot, Cool and Vicious" as opposed to "Very Necessary." biggrin Old school, dammit!

Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five
Salt N Pepa
MC Lyte
Queen Latifah
Slick Rick
Kool Moe Dee
EPMD
Public Enemy
Erik B & Rakim
Boogie Down Productions

I would... because
that was during my adolescence...
back when Hip Hop was still a good thing
when it was innovative

today it's the same song
a million different ways

I included Pac & Biggie
because they are deceased
and set trends while they were
in the hip hop game
and I added Method Man
because his career is deceased

Warren G & MC Eiht
remind me of Junior High
back when friends would
"go half" on a cassette tape
when neither had enough money
to purchase...

that is Hip Hop

I do agree that compared to
the rest of my list
they just don't fit in
"be who you are and say what you feel
because those who mind don't matter
and those who matter don't mind."

Ooh I forgot Geto Boys. I liked Scarface's solo work more, but they get little credit for putting Houston on the map.

Big Tyme is one of my all-time favorite albums. Brings back some of my fondest junior-high memories. nod The Heavster was like a bigger, sweeter, rappin' Morris Day back then.
