Sometimes I feel it’s best to let people enjoy an artist or a song

even though I might not share their opinion.

People have a lot invested in a certain artist or song and to come along and say something opposite feels kinda mean. I dunno, sometimes I don’t want to ruin the enjoyment or the trip someone is on.

If I’m close to them then I don’t feel apprehensive about expressing my opinion; though expect backlash when you tell a Madonna fan she can’t sing.

But if a few acquaintances are discussing the last Coldplay album, not that I dislike Coldplay (they do get alotta flax), but sometimes I rather not kill the enjoyment of some people I hardly know by saying "Coldplay....."

I say sometimes, because I like to express my feelings and usually do without reservation, but some people take music personally and saying something sucks is almost like telling them they suck.

ever since my hammer av, i've been getting shit. In music, thats cool with me. As has been said a zillion times, if u cant take the criticism, then get a grip, its a discussion board, or cussin' board or whatever

I got flack for liking michale damin, deion sanders, hammer, peter cetera, joey lawrence..and by dancrella, tommy puett mad lol ... its all good. No opinion can sway if i like something or not. My brother really gets at u if u diss his stuff, but thats him. My brother would then start dissing me personally, straying from the music part of the arguement. I hate that.

Worst thing is, when maybe someone likes a song but will never say, thats pathetic if anyone does that.

Wow, I agree! Such sweet and thought-provoking sentements. I have no problem saying, "Uh, Bruce F'ing Springsteen!" when I overhear someone playing "The Boss" - yet it truly upsets me to listen to people dis the artists I hold dear. I need to just keep my mind open and, at times, my damned mouth shut!

Music (actually all art-forms ) can only really be enjoyed on an emotional level. Even when one analyzes or critiques it's craftsmenship or logistics, it can never negate the another's emotional response to it.
If you got all the smartest people in the world together & had them explain to me why my favorite song or artist is not a good song or artist, that wouldn't change the fact that when I'm alone, & the song is playing, I'm responding to it.
Criticisms are usually based on a general level.
Music can only be enjoyed, when one is affected on a personal level( first).
Therefore, the rules of generality do not apply.

The critiques though, especially when negative, can be interpreted or felt as criticism towards that individual.

I don't get the Springsteen thing, especially with E Street.

it can be frustrating when you loooove an artist and other people don't see what you see...

on the flipside it's hard when someone is loved by everybody and you don't see what it is about him/her/them...

but it'd be boring if we all agreed.
I'll leave it alone babe...just be me

Yeah... and to put it more succinctly, a lot of the time it's a good idea to keep your god damn mouth shut. Nobody cares about your opinion and it's not that important.

having said that.. you could say whatever u like or feel like about artists like Coldplay.. I feel that the songs I care most about wouldn't be ruined by anyones opinion...

take for example their song "Amsterdam"... I'm in another time listening to that.. it wouldn't matter to me
