Rock fans and there contempt for any and all forms of music (non rock).

Why do so many white rock fans have so much contempt for other forms of music suchas (rnb, funk, pop, dance, hip hop). I've never understood why they hate it all so much. Its all related via the Blues right. So why hate?

This is not my experience. I know plenty of white music heads into Rock and Roll that understand about dance music, old R+B, funk... I personally hate current hip hop and R+B, I like the old stuff. But that aint always true. When that Lauryn Hill record came out way back when I plyed the SHIT out of it. D'angelo, too.

I think you are overgeneralising. I can think of hip hop people who have no appreciation for AC/DC or early Slayer. Or David Sylvian records or Wagner Operas, or less macho varients of hip hop like Anticon. I don't think white skinned Rockers in general are against other forms of music.

You gotta admit that current r+b and hip hop fucking sux though, right? I mean don't tell me I'm supposed to pay any respect to a vacuous FAKER like Mariah Carey. You aint sayiong that, are ya?

almost as bad as those people who say "i like all kinds of music...except for country and hip-hop."

if people like rock'n'roll and they can't get with public enemy or johnny cash, they're not listening.

From what I've seen, today is the exact opposite of the 1970s and 1980s. Today, many white people that listen to rock also listen to hip hop and current R&B. Hell, just look at the pop charts these days. Hip hop practically dominates it.

Back in the day, it was the exact opposite. Most white people that listened to rock did not listen to funk or R&B unless it was weakened and watered down for pop appeal. Radio was very segregated back then but actually it was much better and I wish it had stayed that way.

I have no problem with anyone, regardless of their race, loving either rock, funk, R&B, or whatever it is they love exclusively as long as it's a strong love for that type of music and not for racist reasons. For example, white rock fans should have no problem with a song like Prince's "Bambi" and black funk fans should have no problem with a song like Teena Marie's "Behind The Groove". Prince is black and Teena is white but the two songs I used for examples are strong songs in genres where you don't usually see that particular race. The songs weren't watered down for both sides to love. It's when an artist tries to please everyone by blending all these musical styles into one song, that the song loses it's strength. When more artists follow their lead, a whole genre eventually dies and fades away.

lol Rotten steak is actually just as disgusting to me as poop, so I guess it doesn't really matter.

Conversly, why do so many Black people act like rock music is craziest thing in the world and unlistenable; geniuses like Jimi Hendrix not even understood or accepted by the majority of his own people.

Some of those rock fans you mentioned do like Prince though and that's about the the closest they get to rnb; while their discontent for rnb or pop is usually expressed through the dislike of Michael Jackson.

Yes, I think it's worse the other way. I'll see a lot more white people at a Maxwell show than black people at a Cure show.

You should have known this would happen when you used the red poop emoticon. It's practically screaming "What am I?"

It definately happens on both sides of the fence. It's one thing to listen to a particular type of music to test it out and then find that you truly don't like it. However, it's an entirely different thing to listen to a type of music because you feel like that's the music you're supposed to be listening to.

Actually, I consider myself to be a "rock fan" more than any other genre of music, but look at my screen name. I LOVE Janet and I love good R&B, good rap music, PRINCE, jazz, dance, pop.
