Gloria - The Doors vs Van Morrison

Which is the better version?

The first version I heard was The Doors' take on it. My brother is a huge fan, so I heard that one repeatedly growing up (and I do mean repeatedly). The best part of that version is the build of the mid section after it slows down:

Getting softer, slow it down
Softer, get it down

Now you show me your thing.
Wrap your legs around my neck,
Wrap your arms around my feet, yeah
Wrap your hair around my skin.
I'm gonna huh, right, ok, yeah.

It's getting harder, it's getting too darn fast
It's getting harder

All right!
Come on, now, let's get it on.
Too late, too late, too late,
Too late, too late, too late,
Can't stop, wow!
Make me feel all right!

Talk about dirty words to a preteen's ears! eek Recently, I've been listening to Van Morrison and have really come to appreciate his original recording of the song with Them. I love the gravel of his voice and the innuendo of the lyrics. The directness of The Doors' recording has a lot of appeal as well, but the power of the Them version is in its suggestion.

There's an even longer dirtier version of Gloria by the doors from the Aquarius rehearsal... where he says "why don't you wrap your lips around my cock" It's great!

I like both Van's and Jim's version... hard to pick. Jimi Hendrix does a pretty good version too. It's hard to screw up the song smile

Them's Gloria is the best followed by Patti Smith.

I`ve only Heard Van Morrison`s version, and i like that one, but then again, i like most of his stuff.
I`ve heard a song by him, from one of his last albums, called "Hey mr. DJ", and it was great nod

I love Hendrix' version, especially when he refers to someone's breath "smellin' like wolf p***y"...
