Whenever these... is Prince better than so and so threads comes up invariably most of u so called fans of Prince on PRINCE.ORG call the other person the genius or the better artist.

And those that do consider Prince 2 be the greater in the comparison threads are called gushers etc etc.

This has come up more than a few times over the years among other musicians who are friends of mine so I'll ask it here. Who do ya'll think is better? Both are brilliant pocket players and both are from the school of Jimmy Nolen (James Brown's famed guitarist). When I think of P's playing, I think of Controversy, Hello, Lady Cab Driver, etc. BUT, when I think of Roger, man...I think of More Bounce, So Ruff, etc. I GOTTA go with Roger on this one, ya'll. Who do u think?

Because of his skills to play many [b]music styles/genres, Prince would have an advantage. But in the funk/rock, Roger would give Prince a fight on his hands.

Pffff, this is really hard! I am sorry but I just can't choose. I agree with Thumparello that it was nice that Roger always had his guitar up front in the mix. And More Bounce To The Ounce is funkier than anything recorded by Prince. But Prince is just sooo damn good too. I love the stuff on tracks like Controversy, 777-9311, and let's not forget Nasty Girl! And what about 1+1+1=3 from the Alladin DVD? You can't mess with that! So I call it even.

One of the things I loved about Roger was the respect he got from the hip-hop community. I remember EPMD's cameo in the "Everybody Get Up" video. And Tupac and Dr. Dre were mentioned earlier.

Also, his work on Shirley Murdock's albums was so classy and tasteful. Dude was baaaaddd...

I got the chance to see him in concert back in '96 at the World Trade Center Friday r'nb summer concerts. I stayed for both shows; unfortunately, Roger spent a lot of time changing costumes and left the majority of the guitar playing to that young cat in his band at the time (I think his name was Ricardo). He played a little blues guitar (dressed as Elvis) but that was pretty much the extent of his guitar playing that day. Plus, he had that really fat guy (guess he was just comic relief)blowing bubbles at everyone. I did have the honor of Roger blowing harmonica in my face during "Doo Waa Ditty". That was priceless.

His guitar solo during his remake of "Ooo, Baby, Baby" was the s**t.

I've always thought that Prince should pay tribute to Roger by playing "More Bounce to the Ounce." Prince would rip that!
