Man, u are waaaay off target. You're getting your drawers knotted up over nothing. Obviously u haven't read not one post on here, cuz if u had, u would've seen NOTHING but LOVE for Prince. Even from us who favor Roger as a rhythm guitarist, we STILL praise P as well. The basis of this topic is comparing two GREAT guitarists. Period. If u feel that P is the greatest at everything, then right on for u. Nobody on here who posted gives a shit one way or another. That's the beauty of opinions; it's yours and nobody can take that from u. But, DAMN, if somebody else doesn't share your opinion, it doesn't make anybody bashers of Prince, as u put it.

Look guy, if you would actually take the time to read the posts, they're very objective and like BG stated, they're all showing much love to Prince. You're making mountains where there aren't any molehills. You must have this thread confused with thebanishedones weekly "is Prince better than Steve Vai threads"...

Take a chill pill...

I've always seen it credited to Roger only. Was there some ghost writing going on and where's your source? No disrespect intended, just wanna be accurate on my funk!

On the album, it credits Roger for writing all the tunes..

But it also has Bootsy as co-producer & rhythm guitarist...

Aww man...So Ruff, So Tuff and More Bounce make me HAVE to give it to Roger. Prince has had some great rhythm guitar moments but Roger...DAMN. I'd seen Roger & Zapp so many times live it ain't even funny. Brotha was always on point on guitar. Roger was HIGHLY underrated as a guitarist. I remember in one of his later concerst it was purely the Roger show. He played everything on the stage that night. Plus, Roger is the only person I've ever seen get funky on BANJO. nod Yep. Banjo. Man I miss those shows.
Prince is nothing to sneeze at on rhythm, though. Don't get it twisted.

I know that but he said Bootsy wrote the music and that's what I'm asking him about.

Better yet, ask him to name two songs that Roger even made. Give him a little while to search the internet for names. lol

This has come up more than a few times over the years among other musicians who are friends of mine so I'll ask it here. Who do ya'll think is better? Both are brilliant pocket players and both are from the school of Jimmy Nolen (James Brown's famed guitarist). When I think of P's playing, I think of Controversy, Hello, Lady Cab Driver, etc. BUT, when I think of Roger, man...I think of More Bounce, So Ruff, etc. I GOTTA go with Roger on this one, ya'll. Who do u think?

I think Prince & Roger should have tour together to help answer that question.

Because of his skills to play many music styles/genres, Prince would have an advantage. But in the funk/rock, Roger would give Prince a fight on his hands.

BTW, anyone digs the guitar on Zapp's Dance Floor?

This topic was even brought up during ROger's funeral. I read a Eulogy where the guy reading said something about how Roger could play circles around that symbol guy...I found it odd that they would mention something so meaningless ...maybe it wasn't true..

Pffff, this is really hard! I am sorry but I just can't choose. I agree with Thumparello that it was nice that Roger always had his guitar up front in the mix. And More Bounce To The Ounce is funkier than anything recorded by Prince. But Prince is just sooo damn good too. I love the stuff on tracks like Controversy, 777-9311, and let's not forget Nasty Girl! And what about 1+1+1=3 from the Alladin DVD? You can't mess with that! So I call it even.

What about 'Peach' on the "it ain't over' live cd?

One of the things I loved about Roger was the respect he got from the hip-hop community. I remember EPMD's cameo in the "Everybody Get Up" video. And Tupac and Dr. Dre were mentioned earlier.

Also, his work on Shirley Murdock's albums was so classy and tasteful. Dude was baaaaddd...

I got the chance to see him in concert back in '96 at the World Trade Center Friday r'nb summer concerts. I stayed for both shows; unfortunately, Roger spent a lot of time changing costumes and left the majority of the guitar playing to that young cat in his band at the time (I think his name was Ricardo). He played a little blues guitar (dressed as Elvis) but that was pretty much the extent of his guitar playing that day. Plus, he had that really fat guy (guess he was just comic relief)blowing bubbles at everyone. I did have the honor of Roger blowing harmonica in my face during "Doo Waa Ditty". That was priceless.

His guitar solo during his remake of "Ooo, Baby, Baby" was the s**t.

All this talk about Roger made me pull out a 12" I had of OoH Baby Baby.

Ive never heard of this guy....
Strange that my ex-girlfriends father had Roger signed to his rec co back in 87 (?).
I didnt know anything back then, Ill have to check him out.

No disrespect taken, player. But yeah, like funkpill already posted, it does mention Bootsy on there. Plus, it's been written about Bootsy's involvement.

I've always thought that Prince should pay tribute to Roger by playing "More Bounce to the Ounce." Prince would rip that! headbang

P already paid tribute to Roger when he cut the songs "Controversy" and "D.M.S.R.".
