i'm a newbie to janis due to "me & bobby mcgee", ....i was just wonderin what ya'll other fans love about her?

"CRY BABY" is the reason i like Janis Joplin!!!
I don`t know that much about her career, but she was a wonderful singer, because she gave so much of herself when she sang the lyrics.

I am a huge fan of Janis Joplin. Love her voice, her personality, her style. Everything. They don't make em like her anymore. Check out the film "Festival Express" to see what a kick ass live performer she was.

I cant find the words to describe how much I respect and love Janis. I've been a fan since childhood and love just about everything she's done. She was a VERY soulful singer who gave her all with each song, performance. Her footage on 'Woodstock', 'Monterey Pop Festival' and 'Festival Express' are proof as to how electrifying she was live. I hope someone somewhere has more footage of her to put out, she deserves to be seen. 'Cry Baby', 'Try', 'Down On Me' all great songs....my favorite album is 'I Got Dem 'Ol Kozmic Blues Again Mama!'...it is a revelation indeed. But if I had to choose a song...it would have to be the somber, heartbreaking 'Little Girl Blue'. That song breaks my heart and it's hard to listen to without crying but I cant help it...I cry because it is a sad song but I also cry because it is such a beautiful piece of art and it's the only way I can fully express how that song makes me feel.

Another thing you have to check out is a new DVD release of her appearances on The Dick Cavett show. It is on a Cavett release that features different rock stars that appeared on his show. The set features the complete 3 shows she appeared on. Her performances, his interviews with her and it also shows her sitting with the other celebs on the show talking about different subjects. It's a must have.

I agree that there should be DVD release of her live appearances. Her brother said her record company does seem willing to spend the money though.

Festival Express is a rousing record of a little-known, but monumental, moment in rock n' roll history, starring such music legends as Janis Joplin, The Band, and the Grateful Dead. Set in 1970, Festival Express was a multi-band, multi-day extravaganza that captured the spirit and imagination of a generation and a nation. What made it unique was that it was portable; for five days, the bands and performers lived, slept, rehearsed and did countless unmentionable things aboard a customized train that travelled from Toronto, to Calgary, to Winnipeg, with each stop culminating in a mega-concert. The entire experience, both off-stage and on, was filmed but the extensive footage remained locked away until 2003, when director Bob Smeaton released the Festival Express movie. A momentous achievement in rock film archaeology, Festival Express combines the long-lost material with contemporary interviews nearly 35 years after it was first filmed.

I love Janis. She's one artist I'd give pretty much anything to have the chance to go back in time and just hang out and talk with for a while.
