That is a cool movie and I seen it one time on cable. I even had the soundtrack but not anymore as the CD became crack. The soundtrack is so tight.

Cant wait to get it on DVD. biggrin

Thanks for the heads up. It would be great if they added extras and interviews. I wonder why they didn't use the original cover? I guess with Donna Summer on the cover it'll attract more people. I haven't seen the movie in a long time but didn't Debra Winger and Terri Nunn (Berlin) appear in the flick?

Yes,this film featured several people who later went on to greater success in the 80s.Debra Winger appears in this film as a young, frustrated lady trying to find "Mr.Right"....Terri Nunn (who later became the lead singer of Berlin) appears in the movie as an underage teen girl who sneaks into the disco with her best friend.

The VHS copies used different covers throughout the years.I guess they could never decide on a proper cover? lol

Terrible movie. Can't wait to own it! biggrin I wish they would have used the original poster artwork. The studios are really bad about that.

The soundtrack had some great moments.Of course,"Last Dance" by Donna Summer is the centerpiece of the album, but there are some other amazing tracks.Paul Jabara's "Trapped In A Staircase" is a stunning pop/disco track....why the hell wasn't it released as a single?! The slow, sizzling "Do You Want The Real Thing" by D.C.LaRue is mindblowing."Leathermans's Theme" is an instrumental jam that intoxicates the listener, while the opening number "Thank God It's Friday" by Love and Kisses is also alot of fun. While not as consistently enjoyable as the previous year's 'Saturday Night Fever' soundtrack,it's still a superb soundtrack with some real gems buried throughout.

I gotta admit, the movie is not quite a masterpiece. Some of the jokes fall flat, and there are alot of cheesy moments. But it's worth owning just for Donna's performance, although it's hard to tell if she's a good actress or not:

"Hold on,Mr.Big Shot DJ....I ain't no amateur! I paid my dues!"

hmmm lol

I hear ya! lol

I recently bought the Deluxe Edition of "Dirty Dancing" and it contains about a million interviews,THREE music videos, the trailer and a dozen or so other goodies, lol.

Yeah, but you know what? I really, really like that picture of Donna that they're using for this DVD razz even if it looks like it's from the "Bad Girls" era, lol.

I heard she`s related to Whitney Houston, anyone know if that`s true?

It's 1978 and the movie takes place at a Hollywood disco known as "The Zoo".It's a Friday night and there is a big dance contest going on.There isn't much of a "plot" here....just a bunch of colorful characters going out to have a good time. Each character has their own goal/agenda.Donna plays a strugling singer named Nicole Sims. She's trying to get the DJ to let her perform. There's an appearance by the Commodores.

Unfortunately,Thelma Houston's contribution to the soundtrack is lame...a weak, uninspired dance track called "Love Masterpiece".They would have been better off using her superior 1976 classic "Don't Leave Me This Way".

That`s too bad, cause she can sing. "Don`t leave me this way" is amazing, and i also love her "I`m here again", i`m wondering about getting the "Sunshower" album hmmm

U and I have had conversations about this movie on here in the past. I ADORE this film, so much more than Saturday Night Fever. SNF was kind of a bummer where as TGIF is much more fun and uplifting. Hell yeah it's chessy, but it's a feel good movie.

I've seen this film, its crap. But it must be good nostalgia i suppose....

the early 90's had "cool as ice" with vanilla ice, which by all means, should be a cult film.

"Old timers" like myself can appreciate this flick because I was a little dude when this type of music was popular. When this movie came out it was "sort of" on the heels of "Saturday Night Fever" but not as successful. Still a fun movie..Maybe VH-1 can do a "Behind The Movie" special on it?
