Funkster's jukebox Today's spins...
I've been listening to Mogwai/Sigur Ros' collaboration - or so I thought it was... A four-track demo. Interesting listen, however, after further investigation this was revealed... http://jscms.jrn.columbia...vallee-mp3 http://sojuandi.blogsome....ai-500-won Very interesting indeed. A good listen nonetheless. Also finally got round to listening to The Liars' They Threw Us All in a Trench and Stuck a Monument on Top Ace record that it is, it is somewhat overshadowed by the complete ridiculousness of the final track This Dust Makes That Mud, a five minute song which then spirals into a 25-minute cyclical riff with a siren/keyboard tagged onto a PIL-like sinister bass. Sounds ace - but in actuality the same 4-second riff repeated for 25 minutes is somewhat baffling and in a strange way detracts from the rest of the LP. It throws up lots of questions - are they doing this because they think its worthwhile/a good listen? Are they doing it because they're proving they're leftfield and innovative? Or are they doing it because, simply, they can - a mere joke or the listener - who sits and listens, merely to prove then can last the distance? A quick scan of reviews shows people have centred more on this last track than any other, so it surely proves a point that novelty prevails. Is that good though? One thing I know for sure is tha I'll never listen to that 25-minute outro again. Anyhoo, the rest is, like I said, bosso. Finally two ace solo songstress' Cat Power - The Greatest and Regina Spektor's Soviet Kitsch. Both lubbly. Any recommendations?
