Speech and Arrested Development are BACK!

ANNOUCEMENT of the creation of the OFFICIAL Online Street Team for Speech, Arrested Development and Vagabond Produckshuns!

Excerpt from iMUSIC's PRESS RELEASE annoucing Speech's latest project "Spiritual People":

Not that Arrested Development is an afterthought – more that Arrested Development is an important piece of yesteryear in the evolution of Speech. It was a platform for Speech, a band that chipped away at popular music, a multi-platinum blueprint for neo-soul and socially-conscious afro-centric hip-hop and R&B. There were MTV Awards and Grammy Awards, phenomenal record sales – and all of the trappings of stardom. Although the changes in perspective that stardom and then obscurity brought about influenced Speech’s most recent recording, “Spiritual People,” it’s not quite as simple as that. Sorting through the aftermath of fame led Speech to a place of spiritual growth and introspection. In combination with the birth of his children, religious study, and the current world situation, ‘Spiritual People” is a record that’s true to Speech-form: a record that speaks for itself...

###

Those that attended Prince A Celebration 2002 and saw Vic Wooten perform, were also treated to a brief performance by Todd "SPEECH" Thomas. Leader and founder of the Grammy Award winning pioneering group Arrested Development. After 6 years of relationship mending and soul searching Arrested Development and Speech return with TWO new projects. Originally released overseas... "Spiritual People" by Speech and "Heros of the Harvest" by Arrested Development will be available soon for you listening pleasure!

I feel the same! That's why I was so psyched when I saw him performing with Vic Wooten.. Folks you really need to hit the sites and give this talented brotha some love! New Skoolers will dig him and Arrested Development because they are pioneers of NeoSoul before it even had that label..and Old Skoolers will vibe in the memories of good times with hopes of even more to come... more good music for the feast wink

First album, awesome...

Second one, errr...

Hopefully Speech has gotten over his *Im the king of the world* attitude and can go back to what made the first album such magic...

If it means we get some fresh tunes from -- or even some appearances by -- Dionne Farris, I'm so down! Her debut (and only???) release was way better than AD's best offerings, IMO.

Dionne, where are ya, girl??? You are missed!

It trips me out how the world just forgot about Arrested Development. A few weeks back I stumble onto Speech's site. Seeing the news that he's about to drop his fourth solo LP, the first words out of my mouth were "when the hell were his second, and third??" No promotion at all! And I've been waiting for Heroes of the Harvest for TOO damn long. When an album is only released overseas, that's a sure sign that the label really doesn't care about you. AD's first two albums were AMAZING as was Speech's first solo album "If you think the system's workin" should have been a HUGE damn hit. Whatever. How do I join that street team??
Keep your headphones on.

Dionne Farris was not actually a member of AD she was a member of their extended musical family. She guested performed on "Tennessee", "Give A Man a Fish", "Fishin' 4 Religion" and "U".

She was just one of the funky elements that made up AD's "3 Years, 5 Months and 2 Days in the Live of..." Speech wrote and produced most of the LP.

If you like Dionne you might also want to check out Laurea. A few tracks on her debut CD were penned and produced by Speech. Her debut album by the same name(Laurea) was on Babyface is wife's label Yum Yum Records. She released a second LP overseas, that can be purchased at most online CD outlets as an IMPORT.
