"Check On It" by Beyonce: Illogical Career Move? Don't get me wrong I like the song "Check On It" a lot, but it still doesn't take away from the fact that its a Destiny Child song, not the song of a person who broke up a group to strike out on her own.
When I first heard "Check On It" I was thrilled. Once I found out it was a solo track by Beyonce my interest diminished. It's a classic DC3 track. The production is a slight hint to the jittery heyday of "Writing's On The Wall". The I'm-all-that-have-me-on-my-terms teasiness is there. Even the breathless, catch-my-breath-I-dare-you-to-try-and-sing-me chorus is there. Ooh boy you lookin like you like What you see Won't you come over and Check up on it Watch him while he work up on it Ladies let him check up on it Watch him while he work up on it Dip it, pop it, twerk it, stop it Check on me tonight This cumbersome exchange is rattled off in ten seconds or less. "Dip it, pop it, twerk it, stop it"? A line obviously meant for DC3 to demand submission from their suitor. Beyonce looks lonely in the video without the girls. She tried to be cartoony with the pink wig (Beyonce has never been one to practice restraint, always succeeding in taking an idea too far. *The "Baby Boy" belly dance. The "Naughty Girl" Champaign glass*) but without Kelly in an electric blue one and Michelle in a mint green one again she looks lost in this video. I just don't see the point in breaking up one of the more enjoyable groups of the past 5-6 years only to put out material that sounds just like said group unless its strictly for the money. And lets face it, endorsement-happy Beyonce is not strapped for cash. With a debut album I hardly spin anymore and a single that sounds JUST like DC3, I wonder about Beyonces future as a solo artist.

Letoya Luckett reportedly has a slammin track out called "All Eyes On Me" from a mix-tape she's put out. Who's heard it? What's the verdict?

That shit been out since last year...It is not slammin' at all, it was better when she first recorded it and she didn't have her baby daddy Slim Thug and Paul Wall all over it

And while I'm not the biggest fan of Beyonce, she is one of the few r&b singers who was influenced by Michael Jackson that doesn't take her "influence" over the top (like Justin/Usher etc.) *So I give her props for that!*

For the longest time I didn't get the whole Destiny's Child/Beyonce thing They sang dumb shit that I couldn't get with (Bills, Booty, more booty)
Then she FINALLY did something worthy of my ear w/ the SONG (not the whole album ) Dangerously In Love. NICE And the last Destiny's Child album had some songs I actually liked, even that fucking Soldier shit Now the bitch is back to droppin' it like it's hot (not that she ever really stopped) & singin' dumb shit again I don't get it. With the exposure she's had lately, is she not ready to step up her game a bit? I'm not saying she gotta get all prim & proper but damn, is songs about fucking & ass shaking really all she has to give @ this point? I dunno, I was disappointed when I heard the shitty song/saw the whack video. She can do so much better. I'll be glad when she tires of the shit that (shamefully) got her by as a teen. Make a song worth my ear, fuck a pink wig...

The song sucks, the video's tacky. Beyonce thinks she can do anything now and with the right marketing, the record company will let her. It's nauseating with the over-satuaratedness. &

This track is STRONG. You cannot tell me you don't like the trumpet in the background. She was still indie that's why it didn't chart. Payola woulda blew this thing up.

I heard this song and saw the video.....what's with that high note close to end. It doesn't really sound like her or something she'd do. Hey Calhoun.....I like the pink wig.

Money talks and right now she's much more bankable on her own. The whole girl group thing is pretty much OUT at this point...hopefully it'll come back. But no one touches the groups of the 90s IMHO...TLC, SnP, En Vogue (ok, late 80s/early 90s). I'll leave it alone babe...just be me
