Late Registration (Kanye) v. Be (Common)

Seriously, for those of us who have both albums, which one is the better one/more deserving of Grammy nods?

My vote (shocker lol) goes to Be.

Ewww...this is a tough one! Well, let me break it down like this: Kanye's Late Registration had lots of variety, an amazing production, and was lyrically pretty good (not as stunning as College Dropout was!) Common's Be was tight in staggering width and size, the production was soulful and innovative, and it was lyrically brilliant. So, Common's Be gets my vote!

COMMON! BE was one of the top 3 albums of of 05!

Be.

Not because Late Registration is bad, it's a very good album, one of the better hip-hop joints of recent years.

But because Common is one of the best emcees ever to grace the mic and he's light years ahead of 'Ye in that department.

That's true but Kanye got nominated for more Grammys than Common and Com has the better album.

DAMN!

I'll go with Be but because Be left me wanting more, while Late Registration left me sayin ok I got it all Im full, plus the 3 bonus tracks (including the Japan only "We Can Make It" plus the bootlegs that were coming out b4 the album.

Be ended better too.

BUT on a REPLAY level, Kanye gets the pick. I go listen to it more than I do with Be.

I skimm through Late Registration, and I can play Be ALMOST without skipping (Chi City is aiight but doesnt do anything 4 me).

Late has more radio friendly songs too.

DAMN SO DAMN HARD!

Okay, true that. But what a lot of people fail to realize is that the production is approximately 80% of what catches a listeners attention. If you have wack production put behind Commons rymes you got a "wack album". People gotta big up the producers man! Not to get off subject but that is where I think Toni Braxton has gone to the left. She is an amazing talent and I love her sultry voice. But lately her voice has been put in front of bad production! And everyone wants to say Toni Braxton has fell off. Toni didn't go anywhere, her producers went south on her. So in essence, Commons "BE" without Kanye's production wouldn't have been as successful.

That is not really true... Kanye is one of the most popular producers in the industry now, he sure knows where he comes from because you can hear the old-school R&B samples he uses and he used them heavily on both his album and Common's. That is one of the things that makes Common's Be so perfectly flawless from start to finish.

You think there's no contest? Really?

Beat for beat, I you could make that argument. "Late" is the best beat 'Ye's ever made.

But LINE FOR LINE, Be is more focused, mature and less self-indulgent than {i]LR[/i].

Be...I liked Kanye's "Late Registration" but like some others have said, it don't compare to "college dropout"...i found myself skipping a lot on "Late Registration" especially over them wack "Broke Phi Broke" interludes, he could have done without those things....

BE didn't have any interludes, just plain ole' music, i love the way Common flows anyway, he just seems like he puts out music for the "adult" listener rather than the "teenage" listener....
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Electric Circus was better than Be, in my opinion and just to back up my comments earlier, Late Registration is the best rap album ever. Beats and lyrics. He's full of himself but so what. He can back it up. Common seems like a dude I'd rather hang out with and his lyrics are great. He shouldn't have turned down Kanye's beats, although "Go" is a classic.

WHAT!?!?!!

Better than Nation of Millions?

Better than Low End Theory?

Better than Ready To Die?

Better than Midnight Marauders?

Better than Mecca and the Soul Brother?

Better than Blowout Comb?

Better than Illmatic?

Better than Only Built 4 Cuban Linx?

Better than Whut? Thee Album?

It can't even hold a candle to Madvillainy!

Come on, pkidwell. Rein it in.

Sir, no disrespect meant, but please don't ever repeat this ignorant statement again.

Kanye is "OK" when it comes to his lyrical skills. Certainly one of the better rappers with a current "pop" prescence. His production is hit and miss with me, sometimes he can create some fire, but I've also heard a lot of sub par efforts on his part. I would be interested in knowing what you consider the greatest "rap" albums ever.

And by the way, Common is extrememly underated as an emcee. Whether he's dropping knowledge, rhyming abstract, or just straight spitting hip hop.
