I will come forth as a larry hater nod I despise his influence in Prince's life because Prince purposely enslaved himself after they got together.

HOWEVER I would implore all haters to go back and revisit the Graham Central Albums. They are all just so much fun, brilliant and free. This was a group that sought to carry on the tradition they began with Sly and they did it fiercely. Regardless of Larry's involvement with Prince barf , I will always recommend the old GCS albums as they are all slammin nod

1970 here talk to the hand

I went through the amazing 70s and have extolled the virtue of his old alums with the station. It is still disgusting the way Prince chose to enslave himself to a bunch of bullshit and he wouldn't have been likely to do so without Larrry F*n Graham barf

his personal influence on Prince is between them... If you don't dig their collaborative efforts together that's cool, but what you're ranting about sounds like a personal issue. But if you truly "extolled the virtue of his old albums" then you'd have no qualms about Larry... and the barfing emoticons 'n shit wouldn't be necessary. Just acknowledge him as one of the gods of bass guitarists and leave Prince out of it.

I'll say it how I see it.

I gave the old albums praise because they deserve them and there needs to be something worse than vomit in connection to Larry Graham and Prince. Prince abandoned so much of his own truth when Larry came trampin in peddling guilt. Go back and take a tour of history and you will see that Prince only started changing his songs and lyrics and turned away from the greatness of what made him a legend after Larry entered the scene. And for that larry graham can eternally fuck off in my book.

basically the same perspective as Supa.

I dig & respect Larry, because he did play with SLY
&
Larry created his own RAW SMOKIN' FUNK in the mid 70s

I too regret the influence he had on prince
in terms of prince no longer cussin' & "censoring" his own music
but I see this part of it as
Larry had prince's ear because (again) Larry played with SLY, whom prince always dug..
with that "credential", Larry had his way in.

it's good when a person is able to separate
an artist's work
from some of his/her points of view on certain things
because
this is not always easy to do.
I'll see you tonight..
in ALL MY DREAMS..

LOVE Larry.

I don't buy into the 'Larry brainwashed a helpless Prince' MYTH.

Like to see more footage.

The guy is the Funk, literally.

The Europe '96 tour is one off the very best I've ever witnessed. Seen GCS 3 times during that tour. We've met Larry and the band backstage twice and I truly had the most funky nights off my life (I even touched his magic thump. Larry didn't even looked surprised when I asked him "can I touch your magic thump" biggrin ).
Every GCS album has some real Funkclassics on it. I don't have a real favorite, but I think I like the first three albums the most.

Do you feel the same way about George Benson? I've spoken to GB myself, and he also had a hand in introducing P to his current spiritual plane.
If you wanna be mad at anybody, be mad at Prince. Larry certainly didn't put a gun to his head telling him to change lyrics and stop cursing. Prince could have easily told him to f*** off too, ya know. wink

I feel sad for Prince for even being in a space where he was susceptible and gullible enough to swallow the shoveled crap these guys fed him. Unlike Graham, Benson wasn't attached to Princes left ass cheek for years. Either way, I respect, love and applaud the old GCS stuff and rebuke the ridiculousness that was Larry Graham & Prince.
