Seal - underrated???

I was given Seals first album for xmas at my request and i cannot stop playing it. I have also heard most of his second album. Does anyone think that he should get more praise than he has??

i think the first album is the only good one. the second one is okay - it's salvageable - after that, you're on your own. lol

Some of his best tracks are acoustic versions, b-sides etc. - I've been a fan of his since 1991, and while I've been disappointed with some of his releases at the time of release, they have all grown on me without fail.

His first album will always be my favorite, but I think this will be for sentimental reasons as much as anything else.

I'd be happy to recommend some tracks to hunt down if you're looking for next steps.

Seal is one of my favorite artists. First album is great, but I dig the second album the most.
I used to feel that Seal was underrated, but now it really doesn't matter to me. I know that I enjoy him, so outside opinions won't validate or negate the feelings I already have.

I don't know that he gets that much praise. In my opinion, he is a great AC artist, probably the best and most consistent. It would be nice if he took more chances, though. As for having Heidi Klum, it seems like he is now going to be Mr. Klum now sine she seems to be the bigger star (she was on the Tonight Show talking about their engagement and it almost seemed like Leno had never heard of him!).

Very underrated. I dig Seal. He has his own style, very classy. He has good material. He SHOULD be huge with r&b formats, but he isn't.

Bird Of Freedom (from "Clockers")
Touch
Crazy
Colour
Don't Cry
Dreaming In Metaphors
Prayer For The Dying

agreed...i wasnt going to buy his latest but got it real cheap and i think he finally found a way to fight trevor's urges to overproduce music..it was a return to form for him..but lisa's piano playing in and out of his songs would be an appreciated tread for me still..

I guess I am in the minority because I really dig Human Beings, the album.
It's my personal favorite. It's his most darkest and non-commercial.
I like all his stuff and consider myself a fan so I know all his material.
Human Beings is most people's least favorite so I understand all the comments.
I would like to know what his Togetherland album sounded like. For those that don't know that was the album he had ready before he decided not to release it and then recorded Seal IV in it's place.
My guess is it, like Human Beings, was probably dark and not very commercial.
To each his own.
Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

That's because it's about more than a mediocre career and what you believe to be an attractive appearance. wink

Wow, usually, I agree with a lot of your points, but you lost me on that 'superficial' trip.... confused

Ok, I didn't mean to say that he his mediocre career is due to the fact that he's unattractive.....he's just too middle of the road with his musical choices, kinda boring..... And really, he's not been in the news recently because of that slammin' album he released.....because he didn't!

You would probably dig his newest studio release, IV. It is really great!
The songs on it are amazing! All I can say is..Seal's best IMO. (And I love Kiss from a rose like everyone else, but I think the album IV has much better songs on it!)

I've always heard people say they think Seal is attractive apart from his scars. Plus, despite his last few albums not doing gangbusters, he still probably has money to burn. While Alanis "Crazy" isn't burning up the charts, it's getting a smatter of radio airplay and is doig well on the dance charts, not to mention that a lot of his back catalog still gets airplay.

I liked the single "Human Being" but that is the only Seal album I don't own (and it probably sold the least amount, even compared to "Seal VI"). I hope he is making new music and something with a little more edge. The songs on his last album where nice but the dance remixes really kicked ass.
