Nobody ever talks about Wendy and Lisa's albums, and you seem okay with that lol

actually, i am..cause i can remain objective about them.

and come one davideye, im shocked that you, a grown man would resort to petty statements like the one above...if you look at my posts i am simply sharing my personal opinion on madonna's current music....

does it really make you appreciate your own taste to belittle anothers?

okay!! did i claim that nobody was talking about the album? i qualified my statement by saying "I" havent heard anyone talk about it....

and no, madge didnt kick my dog...i just expect better from her then this album....just like i expect better of prince then Musicology. when it happens, im all about loving madge..but im not gonna gush over something that i personally think is a weak effort.

Let's see....you hate the 'American Life' CD,you hate 'COADF',you hated her last two tours.Maybe you're just not into Madonna anymore? hmmm Might be time to move on? It's unlikely that she will ever make the type of album YOU want.

or maybe she will never make an album that you can be critical of? hmmm...

hey, i thought we both were dissappointed with Medulla..no? for a while there our musical tastes were in sync..then tori amos' new one came out and all was lost..

lurking

I was just trying to be a militant Bjork fan. lol Not very convincing, huh?

But no, I loved Medulla on first listen and still do. It's her new one that I can't grasp.

hmm..then it must have been someone else that im thinking of...but who?

gushing gushing glowing glowing reviews of American Life anyone?

hmmm

See, I think I must be something of an anomaly. Most folks think her new one is a return to form and I'm not super crazy about it. I like it, but not as much as I feel like I should considering it's Madonna. I'm used to gushing. And it seems most folks hate the 2 Mirwais records and those are 2 of my faves.

yeah, i didn't like the artwork to those two album either.
especially, like you say, after Ray of Light, which was is
backed with some very nice artwork and photography.

music looked dead cheap and silly at that. american life is
slightly better imo since it at least tries to go somewhere
instead of just a pic with a ruby studded frame.

the new album has great artwork once again and it feels like
a whole package, you know.

Yes.

I actually thought the "Music" artwork was representative of the whole album in that everything except for the video for the title song seemed to be kind of thrown together at the eleventh hour. I mean, the album cover and the promo shot of her sipping a drink and fumbling with the guitar...there were only 10 songs...many of the lyrics seemed half written...the inclusion of paradise which was already released months before the album...it seemed too that the cowboy look was already kind of passe at that point as well. i remember hearing rumors that she was depressed at the time of that album. she also put the record out not a month after she gave an early emergency birth to rocco and didn't do ANY promotion until the album had been out for about two months. so the artwork, while vibrant and colorful, was a little dull and half assed.

AL--I thought it seemed cheap. I see what she was going for and it was a cool concept, the whole Patty Hearst/Che Guevara look, black white and red...but it just wasn't FUN. not fun, not sexy. I know for a fact she was FURIOUS with the photographer Craig McDean for how it turned out as well and I think it has a lot to do with the album's failure, the cover doesn't really look like a Madonna album.

But the artwork for Confessions is ON POINT.

I know the President of WBR and Madonna got into a couple fights over American Life. They sent her back at least once to rerecord the album, and change it. they didn't want to pay for the photoshoot. I think were several things that led to the demise of AL.

I've been listening to AL today. I think it's a better album than Music eek It hangs together much better the lyrics are eons better as well. But it's not a Madonna album. It sounds like she's the guest vocalist on an album where the producer seemed to have a bit much time on his hands and made a very over produced album even though it had accoustic roots to it. They both seemed a little self indulgent.

I think the demise was...in a time of war, nobody wanted to hear an anti-war message from Madonna. Or at least what they perceived to be one. I mean here's this celebrity who for all intents and purposes moves to England and then starts acting un-American. Then comes out with an album called AMerican Life. I think the albums "demise" was more due to timing/message if anything.

i meant there were several things that led to it's demise. i don't think one was the major factor.

it's not the songs per say because they were some of the best performances of the RIT. i think some of that era Madonna herself seemed to be a little off her game as well. she couldn't decide whether she was promoting her books or her music. leading to lots of mixed messages, and confusion. i would have liked a differnt lead off single. Nobody Knows Me or Nothing Fails and maybe another title

If that were true, she wouldn't be experiencing this renaisance in her music/career. Many non-fans I know are enjoying the sounds off the record. I'd say that some are not wanting her to reinvent herself as someone of importance beyond music.

You live in the US though. Mary's work is always suited for the US audience wheras Madonna is not.

Worldwide though it's all about Madonna recently.
In Canada her album is still hanging top 3. Mary's album debuted at #48.
