Red Hot Chili Peppers Double Album in May Again teaming with producer Rick Rubin, the Cali funk-rockers' Stadium Arcadium builds on the concise maturity of their recent work while reconnecting with the ''sprightly, playful energy [of] our first three records,'' says frontman Anthony Kiedis. Three months of writing yielded a whopping 38 songs (''It was a little too fruitful...downright fruity''), so they mulled releasing three separate CDs or one long disc before settling on a 25-track double album. ''We felt [these songs] should be heard as a group,'' says Kiedis (second from left, with bandmates Flea, John Frusciante, and Chad Smith). ''Even though this is the day and age of bytes, there are a lot of people who need the full director's cut.'' Sans commentary track, of course.

Prince is no where near as awful as the chilli peppers, even though Te Amo Corazon is just unlistenable.

Hopefully with the same producer as BSSM it will be worth listening to. Rick Rubins' be on a roll lately! Actually Rick Rubin has produced every release since BSSM to the present. If you haven't liked them since BSSM, then what's gonna change that now? That's a general question. I personally like most of BTW and some of Californication (least favorite) point being, I still like what they do. I look forward to the new release. Speaking as a fan since the 1st release, I believe in where they came from and where they're at. BSSM may be the last "classic" Chili's release to most but let's not count them out. They've been through a lot and they seem to be more focused now than in quite some time. Shorthand, if you liked what they've done since BSSM I suspect you will like new release (pure speculation). If you haven't, well there ya go. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

I don't understand why people think musicians should just give up because they're not what they used to be. I don't think The Rolling Stones or Paul McCartney had done anything good for a long time, but how did it hurt me if they wanted to put out crap? Nobody is forced to buy it. By The Way had several hits. I thought it was good, if a bit too long. Why would they give up now? Check this song out at:

I've been into the Peppers since 88 and I have to say, I think By The Way was their best album.
Roll on the double! . | |

Um, yeah, the Peppers have come a long way since their humble, yet funky beginnings. Since Mother's Milk, and even more so since BSSM, they've actually been writing songs. I'm sorry but there's not a real song amongst their first two albums, just a bunch of jams that get boring after the first couple of minutes. They've only improved with age if you ask me.

I'm actually glad to know there someone else besides Prince goes through this particular kind of criticism on this site Hopefully, when their 60 nobody expects them to keep performing with socks on their cocks and continue to "push the envelope". [Edited 1/24/06 21:27pm]

I really liked By The Way and Californication. Looking forward to this. Their earlier stuff was fun when I was younger, but it's nice to see them changeup as well and do more crafted songs.

Glad to see there are a few people around here who can appreciate the growth of the RHCP! It's a funny thing about how some folks always just want another BSSM... If the band had actually kept churning out variations of that same record they would get lambasted for that and not growing... And while they actually grow as writers they get blasted for not doing BSSM all over again! Those boys surely can't win with some people. And I would like to state for the record for all the folks who hope Rick Rubin can "bring them back" or whatever crazy notion is being held, that Rick has produced every album since Blood Sugar, yes including Californication and By The Way. Oh wait, I see that Bfunk has already pointed that out. Good on you! But I'll just say that with albums I love personally I just listen to those albums when I'm in the mood for them rather then hoping that the band in question made another version of that same record. For all of those who think that BSSM is the record, you still own that album! Listen to it all you want! And don't judge the albums by the singles, which is what some are doing here I get the feeling. Anyways, I love the band and can't wait for the new record. Frusciante's solo albums last year were so damn good that it really gives one hope that some of that will carry over onto this RHCP record. I'm glad to see there are some around here that will be able to appreciate it!

Thanks for pointing out my comment. I am also glad to see much love here for RHCP after BSSM. I enjoyed them before that album and I've enjoyed them since. I like the growth they've shown in their songwriting. Like others have said, I enjoyed the earlier crazy antics and hyper funk of the early albums but that would be silly for them to being to do that stuff 20 years after the fact. I applaud their growth and maturity. I guess I feel like I grew with them over the years. Like somenone said if you want to hear the old stuff then go bust that out (I do all the time) and if you dig what they do now then support the new stuff (I do that also). To each his own. I am anxiously awaiting Stadium Arcadium. I don't think they'll disappoint (at least me). BTW Chili fans, go to their website and sign up to get on the message board (that parts free) you will find a forum called Throw Away Your Television which has many fans sharing all kinds of rare video/audio stuff old and new. Live, TV show appearances, intereviews all kinds of stuff. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.

May as well do this.
These albums are GREAT: Mother's Milk Blood Sugar Sex Magik Californication By The Way and this one... has some moments, too: One Hot Minute

I think what ever they put out usually has some worth and for me, a lot of it has to do with Flea and his playing and writing and John Frusciante has written and played some great stuff, too... though he's patchier in my opinion.
I expect them to be tighter this time round... more so than some of By The Way and Californication... something tells me it will be back to old school funk a little more. Should be good. . [Edited 1/25/06 17:10pm]

John F has really turned into a very talented and prolific genius type so with the aspect and the fact the Chilis have been saying there is some serious funk tracks on the new album, I'm not worried.
I really enjoyed By The Way, some of the best vocals and songwriting they've ever done. So combine that with some new power funk and hopefully that'll be Stadium Arcadium. Also expect more layered guitar per John F as opposed to his minimalist approach of late. Fantasy is reality in the world today. But I'll keep hangin in there, that is the only way.
