R. Kelly Sings The Blues...Pleads Innocent...(NO "NEW" CRIMES! UPDATED!) Who's gonna buy in2 this latest attempt 4 sympathy? Give it up!
--- Kelly Pleads Case...In Song Thu Jun 20, 5:20 PM ET By Josh Grossberg Two weeks following his humiliating arrest on child-pornography charges in his hometown of Chicago, R. Kelly is taking to song to defend himself. The R&B singer and his label, Jive Records, have released a new tune titled "Heaven, I Need a Hug" to radio stations around the country in attempt to earn some sympathy for the beleagured artist, whose career many believe may be irreparably damaged by the sex-tape scandal. The track, which debuted Tuesday night on Chicago radio station WGCI-FM, features Kelly singing about his life as a celebrity and seems to directly address the allegations that he videotaped himself engaging in lewd sex acts with a minor. "I've given 13 years of my life to this industry/Hit song or not, I've given all of me/You smile in my face and tell me you love me/But then before you know the truth you're so quick to judge me," a plaintive Kelly sings. "It's all because I'm famous/You know what I'm sayin'/I mean if I wasn't famous/then all this wouldn't be happening." Kelly faces 21 felony counts of child pornography, charges that carry a maximum penalty of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $100,000. If convicted, Kelly (whose first name is Robert) would also have to register as a sex offender. Kelly says it's not him in the video. In his new song, Kelly also appeals to fans not to desert him while his name and reputation is dragged through the mud until they hear his side of the story in a court of law. "It's just him trying to get people to understand who he is," says Marv Dyson, WGCI's president and general manager. "Lyrically it's one of the best things I ever heard. I've never heard such a response in my life." The song, which will be included in Kelly's next album (due in the fall), has seemed to caught on with listeners. "We played the single the first time on Tuesday at 7:30. By 9 p.m. on Tuesday that record was number nine. On Wednesday night it was number one on the 'Top 9 at 9' and that has continued since then," says Dyson, who reports the station only getting one negative call about the song. "It's getting requested up the yin-yang. I suppose the controversy around him has something to do with it." Dyson says Jive has since sent the record to Clear Channel urban stations around the country. While some radio stations have shied away from playing Kelly songs in recent weeks, WGCI hasn't, which is the reason it was the first to get the new track. (If fact, when the sex tape surfaced in February, Kelly went on the station to defend himself.) "In my eyes he's innnocent until proven guilty and we will continue to play his music," says Dyson. At this point, the singer would welcome any support he gets. He has found himself increasingly alienated in the R&B and hip-hop communities, shunned by radio stations, fellow artists and record producers, but he's also turned off many fans disgusted by charges. Sales of his last album, a joint project with Jay-Z titled The Best of Both Worlds, have slackened, and Jay-Z has distanced himself from Kelly. Dyson, who has a 14-year-old daughter himself, says of Kelly: "He's just an artist. A very troubled young man, I would think, but an incredibly talented person." Kelly remains free on $750,000 bail and is due back in court next Wednesday. With special thanx 2 gman1966, I know u were sincere in this post, but it wasn't true! MY BAD peeps! see fake confession at end of thread, innocent plea too! [This message was edited Tue Jul 2 14:14:09 PDT 2002 by June7] |

R.Kelly has a new CD "LoveLand" that he is planning to release this fall. Many people have already downloaded a copy of it.What is his problem?? Don't you think he should put his career ON HOLD until after his legal issues are resolved? Instead of releasing new music,he should be more concerned with defending himself against these very serious charges! | |

--- R. Kelly Pleads Innocent in Porn Case Wed Jun 26,11:44 AM ET By MELANIE COFFEE, Associated Press Writer CHICAGO (AP) - R&B star R. Kelly, accused of videotaping sex acts with a 13-year-old girl, pleaded innocent to 21 counts of child pornography on Wednesday. Kelly, whose first name is Robert, made no statement at his arraignment. "I can't talk right now," he told The Associated Press while on his way out of the courtroom. But he smiled and waved to fans who lined the corridor of the Cook County Courthouse, many of whom wore T-shirts reading "R. Kelly We Luv You." One of his attorneys, Sam Adam, told reporters the Grammy-winning singer is innocent. "I haven't seen the tape but I know the FBI has been wrong 100 times in the last year," Adam said. Kelly, 35, who has been dogged by allegations of sexual misconduct in civil lawsuits, was indicted by a Cook County grand jury June 5. Cook County State's Attorney Richard Devine has said the video was made in November 1997 or later and that the girl was born in September 1984. If convicted, Kelly, who lives in the Chicago suburb Olympia Fields, could be sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined $100,000. The singer has denied he is the man on the tape, while defense attorney Edward Genson has said that the woman on the tape was not younger than 18 at the time the video was made. According to a law enforcement source, the parents of the girl claim it's not their daughter in the video. Kelly's arrest followed an investigation in which about 50 witnesses were interviewed before determining the tape showed Kelly and an underage girl, according to Chicago police and Cook County prosecutors. FBI forensics experts analyzed the tape and concluded it was authentic, they said. Kelly has been sued at least four times; three of the lawsuits involved allegations of underage sex. He has acknowledged settling two of those lawsuits, but his lawyers have said they will fight the third. The fourth was filed by a woman who claims he taped their sexual encounters without her knowledge. The singer is known for hits ranging from the Grammy-winning inspirational anthem "I Believe I Can Fly" to sexually charged songs such as "Bump 'n' Grind," "Feelin' on Yo Booty" and "Your Body's Callin.'" A week ago, R. Kelly released a new song to Chicago radio station WGCI-FM. In the song, "Heaven, I Need A Hug," he knocks his detractors and says he hopes to regain his fans' support. --- He needs a hug? I need an aspirin! |

Here's the latest on what promises 2 b a long drawn out media circus...read on:
--- No Crime on New Kelly Tapes Tue Jul 2, 1:40 PM ET By Mark Armstrong The latest tale of the tape involving R. Kelly showed no new criminal wrongdoing involving the embattled R&B crooner, Chicago police said Tuesday. After receiving four "new" sex tapes from authorities in Florida, police say they have found "no new evidence" that would warrant more criminal child porn charges against Kelly. Orange County, Florida, sheriff's deputies found the tapes in a rental motor home and handed them over to Chicago police soon after Kelly's indictment on felony child pornography charges early last month. (Kelly was arrested in nearby Polk County, Florida, where he rents a home.) The tapes--each copies of the same video--featured four different scenes and four different females. But sources say the new footage did not appear to include anyone underage. "Some segments were segments that we had already seen," confirms Chicago police spokesman Dave Bayless. "But there's nothing outside of that that's relevant to the Chicago Police Department's investigation." Bayless says the tapes will be handed back to the Orange County Sheriff's Office. Authorities there say they're not planning to investigate the matter any further. A spokesman for Kelly said today's news wasn't surprising, given that prosecutors would have had to inform the singer's lawyers about any new evidence in advance. "This simply confirms what we've been saying all along, that the authorities are so eager to do everything they can to smear R. Kelly and prejudice the jury pool that they'll leak to the press misleading information that turns out to have no basis in fact," the spokesman said. "We knew from the beginning that this was most likely a scurrilous leak." Kelly pleaded innocent last week to 21 felony counts of child pornography stemming from just one tape--which purportedly shows the 35-year-old Grammy winner having sex with a 14-year-old girl. Singer and former Kelly colleague Sparkle has said the girl on the tape was her niece, whose name has been withheld because of her age. The girl and her family, however, deny she's on the tape. A widely bootlegged videotape billed as R. Kelly Triple-X, circulated in major cities and on the Internet, contains footage of a man who's purportedly Kelly engaging in sex with several females. A former backup dancer has sued the singer for invasion of privacy, accusing Kelly of taping them without permission and then failing to prevent the footage from getting released publicly. (She is 33 and admits the sex was consensual.) Since the tape surfaced in February, Kelly has repeatedly denied the underage sex allegations. He's due back in court August 7. --- August 7th?!? It's funny how the rich and powerful get treated with kid gloves (excuse the pun). |
