Mama Used to Say

By Junior, has anyone ever heard this song? Please say you have. I heard it in the grocery store yesterday and fell out on the floor dyin, laughin like a lush cause the shit was High Larry Yoose. First of all, that growlin falsetto hook. Then there's like a 2-minute instrumental break that features a spoon-bangin-on-a-bottle solo. Was Junior a jug band by any chance? Was that bass line played on a broomstick-rubberband-washtub? Insane. I gotta know who produced it.

Well, maybe I need to rethink my stance on bottlespoon solos. It's a wonder Fat Albert's Junkyard Band didn't sell more records.

It sounds dated but I'm kind of surprised it was from the early eigthies. I figured it was closer to the mid eigthies...as if there is a difference, right? I started to hear that every so often on the radio here....great song.

Transcripts of rarely heard live version:

Junior: "Can the drummer get some? I say, can the drummer get some?"

*loud thigh and belly slapping commences*

Junior: "Yeeeeehaw!"
