Parliament, "The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein"

Usually, I'm diggin' on some P-Funk big-time... but was anybody else a little disappointed with this album? confused I purchased it offline a few weeks ago and while the musicianship is excellent (as usual) and the funk is overall solid, I wasn't feeling it nearly as much as "Mothership Connection", "Funkentelechy vs. The Placebo Syndrome", or "Maggot Brain". Nevertheless, I'd have to say my favorite songs are "Gamin' On Ya" and "Getten' To Know You".

Funkateers: Thoughts?

I don't enjoy it as much as Mothership, Funkentelechy or Motor Booty Affair...However I do think it is a VERY good album. I love the intro, Do That Stuff, Getten To Know You, Children of Productions, and I've Been Watching You. Still a very enjoyable listening experience and the horns arrangements are outstanding.

Yeah, this was the first Parliament album that I owned as well. When I was litlle, I used to just sit and play "Prelude" over and over and over. I LOVED that backwards shit. On the cover, George is doing his best Paul Stanley of KISS pose with the pouting of the lips, hands on the legs, the whole 9. Straight KISS stance. Makes perfect sense; same label, same costume designers, same stage designers, etc. Besides "Prelude" and the song "Dr.Funkenstein", which is one of my all-time fave Parliament cut, the album is somewhat weak. I think they were just TOO busy with side projects;i.e., Bootsy's solo joint. They bounced back with their follow up album in 77 though, cuz Bootsy had some cuts to give.

Ah yes..A CLASSIC! I don't know what freaked me out the most as a little kid, Gene Simmons on the back cover of "ALIVE 2" or George on the cover of this LP..(lol) The LP is kind of light, but "Gamin' On Ya", "Children Of Production" and "Dr. Funkenstein" are the best cuts on here (BG..I'm with you on the opening of "Dr Funkenstein"..some beautiful stuff). And Glen Goins just takes me to church with his vocals on this LP. Good pick.

many great tracks, I dig this album a lot.

that probably also has to do with the fact that George Clinton signed my copy personally at the shop I bought it minutes before woot!
Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy!

Also my first Parliament lp! I like the horn arrangements--- big and thick sound. Good lp no obvious giant hit like the other Parliament lps though but very solid. Introduces the world to the pilot of the Mothership Dr. Funkenstein.
