i was hoping it was that '58 line up. i can't tell with all of them other cats on stage. i know i didn't see Cannonball or Gil. John ripped it up as usual. imagine being so use to John's playing that you took a cigarette break doing his solo and chatted with the other people on stage, those guys were just too cool back then.

There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

that vid is from april 2, 1959.
the band for that performance was:
miles davis: trumpet
john coltrane: tenor sax
paul chambers: bass
wynton kelly: piano
jimmy cobb: drums

cannonball adderley was not at this performance.

after so what, miles did three songs from the miles ahead album, with gil evans conducting the jazz orchestra, the duke, blues for pablo, and new rhumba.

it filmed for a cbs special, the sound of miles davis, mc'd by robert herridge. it is an awesome show.

That's from the film "The Sound of Miles Davis", which also included a session will Gil Evans

you can get it here, along with some other classic performances from Bird, Dizzy, Ella, Thelonious, Billie, etc on this dvd
