I have been racking my brains over this particular lyric. What does Bowie mean by this. The other lyrics to the song were explained in MOJO magazine's tribute to Bowie of a couple years ago and they make sense after further research. I just need to figure out what he means by the "European cannon..."

The song itself is amazing and listening to it on Stage (Bowie live album circa 78) gave me goosebumps. Probably my all time favorite Bowie.
