do u feel the same way about genre specific music labels as well?
i mean i understand ur point,BUT i also think this might be good for gay people, hell even tho it was probably just a rumour remember the maxwell thread about sony pulling his record for having overtly gay themes? with a gay label that will never happen

I just don't like the way it sounds. It's like they have that "Gays go over HERE." Why should there be a designated label for "gay" artists or "gay" music? Seriously, what is the damn point? I forget what else I was gonna say, but it was gonna make sense...

i get what u mean, and yea it DOES sound shitty but i still think it might be a good thing. an example is that they'd never have to deal with bias if everyone on the label was gay or not a homophobe
Yesterday is dead...tomorrow hasnt arrived yet....i have just ONE day...
...And i'm gonna be groovy in it!

Why would homosexuals need "empowerment" in music?

I think due to the fact that most gay artists even still fail to acknowledge gender in the songs they write (including your example Melissa Etheridge) shows that gay artists don't feel safe writing their records without being...

...ambiguous.

So, that's why empowerment is needed.

Exactly. Most straight artists go out of their way to mention gender in each and every song about love, and especially each and every song about sex. (gotta remember, gender-ambiguous, Prince-style writing is the exception, not the rule) But gay artists? When's the last time Elton John wrote a love song that was clearly about another man? Or Melissa Etheridge wrote about getting it on with a lady? It doesn't happen, and that's because while it's a safe career move now for an artist to be openly gay, it's still not safe for even an Out and Proud artist to actually write about their gender specific love.
