What's so special about freakin' Radiohead!?!

Ok, so I might get attacked by an angry mob for saying this but I'll go ahead and say it anyway: Radiohead is a steaming pile of turd. Yea, you heard me. I'm calling Radiohead a shit-tacular crapfest and there ain't nothin' you can do to stop me smile

I don't like them either. Though I don't know if I'd call them a steaming pile of turd wink, there's one major factor that distracts me a lot: the whining voice. I have heard and read everywhere of "OK Computer", so I borrowed the album and didn't like it. I really can not follow the RH hysteria. Best album of all time? come on.

ALL whining voice and NO FUNK AT ALL makes SoD go mad.

That's actually the reason why I don't listen to them very often either, although I like them. He sings like that A.L.L. T.H.E. T.I.M.E.

Yep. Unfortunately there are dozens of bands with these whining voices (as stated before), and this really disgusts me; it makes me truly angry. (Even Bowie sometimes oversteps the limits, for example on the last track of hours).

Prince and Curtis, MJ too, and a few others are allowed to sing in a high voice, it is perfect. And Blood Sweat & Tears. All the others are NOT allowed. The music suffers a lot. Together with the "images" of the bands (groupphoto-posing type) etc., I really can't stand it.

Nothing.
I mean, they're one of my favorite bands, I love them and their music makes me feel all sorts of cool things, but I certainly don't expect it to have that same effect on everyone.
So in essence, they're no more "special" than Aaron Neville or Kelli Clarkson. shrug

i'd rather eat pencil lead than listen to jon meyer, but people i know whose tastes i respect really like him, so who am i to say they shouldn't or that he's "bad"? i just don't dig what the guy does. shrug

i love radiohead. i wouldn't put thom yorke's voice in a list of my favorite vocalists, but his singing is not why i listen to them.

Right. It's the frickin' guitars and bass line in "Airbag" and those awesome changes in "Paranoid Android". thumbs up!

They have a funk song called There There that you could play in place of Modernairre in Purple Rain and its funky yo.

They are like prog rock of today. Masters level rock Ive heard them described as. To me they are like the Kate Bush of modern rock and all that entails. Its complicated. Maybe not...they have integrity (yet are pretentuious but they do pretentious so good!). It's complicated. Once you "hear" them, it's awesome! But it has to be the right place, the right time, the right moment.

they're not about posturing or putting their "image" above their music. in fact, they never have posed for an album cover! it's all about the art and the music, and i love them because i can listen to an album and always pick out new details i'd never heard before. i LOVE that. i like radiohead because they really care about those tiny details. simple as that.

Maybe I was too hard on my opinion just before. The music itself is fine (as least what I have heard), so to say. And what the hell do I know (well that is a different story...) I remember track 3 - a slow track - on OK Computer as being beautiful and interesting, but - you know - the voice... sorry if my statement seemed exaggerated, don't want to insult anyone. Let me say this: I just don't get it.

when you say "i don't get it", what do you mean? what don't you get? it's a voice forming words. i'm not asking that to be smart-alecky, i'm just wondering if it's a matter of you not being able to process something that sounds new to your ears or if it's just a simple case of it not being your taste.

Anyone who lists a reason for their dislike because of Thoms whine or nasal voice better not be a fan of Duran Duran. Thom knows he isnt a singer, trust. But his whine is beautiful compared to some singers who actually think they are or are "trying" to sing.

i don't like pink floyd that much, though i'm nuts about radiohead. in fact, getting into radiohead made me appreciate pink floyd a little more. i still don't like pink floyd that much, but my mind's a little more open to their stuff nowadays.

The right person, the right situation, the right moment,..the right experience could change your mind. In another time and place (univwerse) I could make you love Pink Floyd.

oh, i bet you could. i'm sure given the right intro, i would adore '60s syd-era floyd. i don't like the bloated mid-70s stuff very much. i don't MIND 'the wall', but it's not something i'd choose to play for my own enjoyment. i have that greatest hits thingie they put out a few years back. i never play it.

I never really liked Radiohead (in fact I don't really like rock music too much) but the song Paranoid Android is a fucking killer track IMO.

I saw them peforming that song on Jools Holland show (BBC) and I was amazed how good they were live. Later I saw a live show on TV during the Kid A period, with lots of electronica, and it was nothing short of amazing! I have the deepest respect for these guys.

I only own OK Computer though. I wouldn't call it genius but the production is flawless, very good IMO, and there are a few very enjoyable tracks on this album. Definately one of the better bands from the last 10 years.
RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I, too, like the Bends the best, but I challenge you to listen to Paranoid Android and not say - "that's a great fu*&ing song!" It's actually one of my all time favorites. I don't think there's a bad song on The Bends cool
