Though I don't know if I'd call them a steaming pile of turd wink, there's one major factor that distracts me a lot: the whining voice.

Watched a concert on TV just to see what they were about.
The music was interesting enough but the whining voice quickly became a turnoff.

Thom Yorke's voice is a bit of a deviation from, say, conventional singers. But, I absolutely love RH. Their ability to create sonic landscapes, blending traditional rock, classical and techno/space-age elements -- I love that.

hmm Wwwwwwell wink

I haven't completely written them off.
Musically, there's interest.
Based on what I heard, they just need to get another singer. nod

thumbs up!

True.

I think his voice is what it is (good or bad day).
And yes, I just don't like it. smile

i think their music isn't for everyone because it's more end-result oriented than it is process-oriented. that is to say, they're not musician's musicians, but they're a band that likes to manipulate studio bells and whistles to create something original, regardless of if it's considered "true" musical craftsmanship (which, in my opinion, it is). they're not a band that goes crazy with improving or soloing or showing off what great chops they have on their instruments - it's more about the end product that you hear when you hit play on your stereo. does that make sense?

and, to add to that, i'm not saying i like "process" music more or less than "product" music - i love me some zappa or prince or hendrix noodling away just as much as the next person - but for what radiohead does, i think they do it well.

Maybe I should have emphasized the fact that I did enjoy the experimental nature of the music that I heard.
I'm all for that when balanced with a certain level of instrumental skill.

They are a group i'll check into in more detail at some point.

I agree - OK Comp is IT for me w/ Radiohead nod I checked out their entire catalogue based on that one album lol Although I didn't find the other albums nearly as satisfying, there are songs here & there that I dig.

I wouldn't call it depressing BUT if you're in a bit of an introspective/melancholy mood, it'll knock you on your ass love

Ok, cool. I'm definitely gonna buy OK Computer and see what will happen. smile

I love the song "Creep". A friend of mine had lent me some music an most of it was okay but a bit bland.

Then I put on Pablo Honey and I can remember this song coming on and I literally stopped what I was doing. The rest of the album didn't have the same effect !

It really got me.

I suppose I like Radiohead for that one song. I've heard the lyrics recited so many times !

"Karma Police" and "No Surprises" are also mind-blowingly poetic.

I often hear people say Radiohead is "overrated". That depends on who is "rating". Which doesn't matter. It comes down to whether it moves you in a good way or otherwise. I disliked Radiohead for a long time, but I've since changed my thoughts. Kid A kicked it in for me because it reminded me of Bjork who I dig so there you go. One thing leads to another.

This thread is trying to determine why Radiohead fans act like snobs.
