Anyone Heard Steve Spacek? He's spotlighted on allmusic.com, but I've not heard anything from his solo album. I have, however, heard a few songs from his group effort Spacek and wasn't too impressed. Is he worth listening to if I didn't like his previous outfit?

Personally, I love Spacek. I've always described him to folks as "d'angelo on mars". His solo record that came out in the fall is fairly similar to the other two Spacek records, but definitely worth a listen. The song "dollar" produced by Dilla (Jay Dee) is the F-I-R-E! Go to his site and take a listen... Spacek is one of many many great British r&b/soul singers that are barely known... [Edited 1/9/06 19:26pm]

i've had him on my playlist for the past couple of weeks, though it was mainly background music while i was at work. None of the tracks drew me in, but there were a couple of songs i think are were worth investigating futher. He's definitely head music, maybe smoking a joint would put you in the same space and time as Steve.

I was just listening to the solo album last week, and like you all said, I'm still kinda waiting for something to draw me in. I usually like J Dilla/Jay Dee's productions, but for some reason the Spacek stuff doesn't hit me like that... I think its import only, Look for the single "Eve" with the Dilla remix feat Black Thought. Someone else said it best - its definitely for the head and if you want to hear music that's interesting and complex, put the headphones and take a listen.
