Small Change is great for the older stuff. Step Right Up, I Wish I Was in New Orleans (how does he not sounds like a complete rip off of Louis Armstrong here? Somehow he manages), Invitation to the Blues, all brilliant.
Swordfish Trombones is my favorite of the 80's trilogy Lines like: "I'm getting harder than Chinese algebra" "Using parking meters as walking sticks" "The large print giveth and the small print taketh away" "It was a train that took me away from you but a train can't bring me home" "Everything's a dollar in this box" "You're innocent when you dream" "Hang on St' Christopher!" "I got hair on my chest. I look good without a shirt" "Human oddities!" "Don't be caught with your drawers down...It gets you a job--It IS a job...gives you an erection it wins the election...turns you into a 10 year old Hindu boy...get outta here kid you're bothering me" "I got the jam, but not the bread. But hey, I'm big in Japan" make him the funniest & most serious & tragic lyricist around. Check this song out at:

The piano has been drinking
My necktie is asleep And the combo went back to New York The jukebox has to take a leak And the carpet needs a haircut And the spotlight looks like a prison break And the telephone's out of cigarettes And the balcony is on the make And the piano has been drinking The piano has been drinking... And the menus are all freezing And the light man's blind in one eye And he can't see out of the other And the piano-tuner's got a hearing aid And he showed up with his mother And the piano has been drinking The piano has been drinking As the bouncer is a Sumo wrestler Cream-puff casper milktoast And the owner is a mental midget With the I.Q. of a fence post 'Cause the piano has been drinking The piano has been drinking... And you can't find your waitress With a Geiger counter And she hates you and your friends And you just can't get served without her And the box-office is drooling And the bar stools are on fire And the newspapers were fooling And the ash-trays have retired 'Cause the piano has been drinking The piano has been drinking The piano has been drinking Not me, not me, not me, not me, not me ---

Cheek said: Last night I was watching an awesome movie entitled "La Cité Des Enfants Perdus" - directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet. It's amazing, y'all should check it!!! So I was watching the movie and it really made me want to listen to my 80s Tom Waits albums right after that! For me the movie represented a similar atmosphere like Waits' 80 albums - "Swordfishtrombones", "Rain Dogs" and "Frank's Wild Years"! (Now I'm playing the first of his trilogy...) Okay, that's all! I just wanted to share this feeling... Any Tom Waits admirers out there??? Have a great day/night!!! Si .... There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Waits is one of my top 10.
Of all the shows I have seen he is the best. Beacon Theatre NYC 96 Mule Variations. Paid $200 a seat upper deck. I left thinking that $1k wouldn't stop me from seeing him. He never sold out, still challenges himself, doesn't care what other trends are hot, and totally changed his game from piano jazz stuff to avant garde. One of the only artists on the planet that I think every musician respects whether he digs it or not. My favs include Heart of Saturday night. Swordfish and Rain dogs. His voice is perfect for his music. His lyrics are second to none. Clever mo-fo Music is the best...
