vibe magazine

Doesn't seem like vibe magazine is going down the toilet. They are supposed to be the black rolling stone magazine. They are putting people with only one hit or dating the "IT girl of the moment"on their covers. Next month's cover is Chris brown "Future of R&B". It used to be very hard to get on the cover of vibe magazine.

I agree. I used to read a VIBE from cover to cover. Remember when the magazine featured edgy photos and interesting articles. Some say the magazine went downhill after Danyell left. Many say Mimi is bringing the magazine into the depths of hell. I dunno for me I was losing interest around 2001.

Anywayz, check out this site/blog supposedly written by an anaymous VIBE staffer. An interesting inside view about the decline of the magazine.

I stopped reading VIBE a long time ago. Back in the 90's, they ran great stories and interviews w/ everyone from Whitney to Wu-Tang to Rick James to the Bad Brains. They used to have something for everyone. Now they've turned into The Source.

I subscribed to Vibe in 1993 when it first launched and I have been a subscriber every since. However,I've decided not to re-new my subscription when it expires this year.I'm tired of reading about stupid rappers and lame R&B acts! In the early days, they used to have alot of insightful interviews with old school artists like Chaka Khan and George Clinton. But these days, they only focus on current acts.Fuck Vibe!

True to all the above. I used to rush to read Vibe in a day. Now I can barely get to the end. I think I might just go ahead and let it go too.

I guess there's no chance of getting Emil and Danyl back. Hell, can we get Quincy back on the board?

Vibe has gone to shit and it's basically because they've decided to be pimped by the Hip Hop world. They don't do any Neo Soul covers anymore like they did back in the day. No Maxwell, Badu, Jill, Arie, it's ALL Hip-Hop basically. Whack ass Hip Hop might I add: TI, Ying Yang, Lil Jon...weak shit like that. I didn't renew either last year and decided to do my own thang because I got tired of poppin' yang about it and not doin' yang about it.

I stopped reading The Source and Vibe in the mid to late 90's because both just got ridiculously commercial.

it's not a lie. i saw him on the cover yesterday at a newsstand. pathetic. i also have a subscription to vibe and i don't plan on renewing it this year. it seems that with each year, it just keeps getting worse and worse. vibe was great to read back in the 90 and early 00's. i do think that that mimi valdez girl has taken it to shit. it's a shame how narrow minded the magazine has gotten. it's hip-hop only and for a magazine that didn't start like that is extremely sad.

I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

I stopped reading "Vibe" when it seemed to me that the whole magazine became just one big advertisement. And that's including the articles, and reviews, which were just fawning press pieces . It was completely uncritical, and lacked any historical insight. Every month, some rapper was labelled the greatest artist in music since Ray Charles
