Tones on Tails - Everything! damn, that compilation was serious. What's the best place to start with Love and Rockets?

Seventh Dream Of Teenage Heaven.
I Dont Think Love & Rockets Could Ever Hope To Top This!! The Most Important Thing In Life Is Sincerity....Once You Can Fake That, You Can Fake Anything.

the *ESSENTIAL* love & rockets albums, to me, are:
* seventh dream of teenage heaven (kinda dream-pop, very nice acoustic stuff) * express (kinda rockabilly, very crunchy and fun) * earth sun moon (a combo of the above two - kinda psychadelic) all three are available as inexpensive reissues/remasters with bonus tracks.

There is a L&R compilation called Sorted! that is pretty good for a starting point. It is hardly comprehensive, but it does give a decent overview of their career in one disc:
1. Kundalini Express 2. Dog-End of a Day Gone By 3. Mirror People '88 [Single Version] 4. Ball of Confusion (That's What the World Is Today) 5. Yin and Yang (The Flowerpot Man) 6. Holiday on the Moon 7. So Alive 8. Holy Fool 9. No New Tale to Tell 10. No Big Deal [Single Version] 11. Haunted When the Minutes Drag 12. It Could Be Sunshine 13. Shelf Life 14. Sweet Love Hangover 15. Saudade As far as albums go, I agree with Anx that their first three are near-perfect. There are some gems on their later discs, but they aren't nearly as consistent as the first three. Make sure you get the remasters, as they are the definitive versions of these albums (the first four have all been remastered). Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

got that on cassette there are lotsa different versions of this album, so if you got the recent CD reissue, chances are great that it'll have lots of stuff that isn't on your tape. but it's all good stuff. just sayin'!

The remaster pretty much encapsulates all the stuff from the different releases. Definitely the definitive word on this album (Express is also as comprehensive) Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones.
