are you going to that show? The Stylistics still sound great, but they don't have the original lead singer anymore (Russell Thompkins Jr.).They have a young guy with cornrows who sounds just like Russell, lol.Meanwhile,Russell is pissed and he tours these days with his own version of the Stylistics.

I saw Heatwave last year.It was only three guys and I think only one of them is an original member.

The Delfonics don't sound too good these days, but I'm still happy to see them again. They usually open their show with "Break Your Promise",which I love.I'm hoping they add the dreamy "Hey Love" to their set. That song is heavenly!

I saw the Chi-Lites way back in 1996.They sounded great, but they didn't have Eugene performing with them.In recent years,he came back and joined them for a few shows, but sadly,he passed away last year sad It would be bittersweet to see them nowadays.

I'm always hearing about the Freedom to Funk tour on all the R&B stations, but not much about the Valentines show. I know the Funk one is going to be crazy funky. I would go if I had not already seen most of acts, altho I wanna see Con Funk Shun just for "Baby I'm Hooked..." I wouldn't mind seeing Rose Royce and Al Wilson, Mr. "Show and Tell." I must admit, when it comes to R&B acts prior to the mid-80's, I don't make a point of knowing the group member names, so when a big deal is made about whether or not the performer are original or not, it doesn't really dawn on me. Unless it's something obvious like somebody in our age group surrounded by 50 year olds, like in the case of when I saw The Stylistics, or if the lead singer of The Ohio Players was missing, then that does make a difference. I just never made of point of knowing who's who in alot of these groups.

I definitely wanna hear your take on Smokey's show.

You really should go to the Valentines Super Love Jam.I go to these shows every year and I always have a good time. It's so great to hear real soul music for a change.Another reason to go: the tickets are only $28.50! You get to see 10 different acts for a cheap price.

We have a "funk-fest" in these parts every year.
Last one I attended had
Gap Band
Evelyn C. King
Ohio Players
Barkays
& a couple more that are not coming to mind.
But they're always a good time

You should have fun.

Yeah, for the most part, these shows are only here in the West (California and Arizona),for some strange reason.Makes no sense to me.There are fans of this music all over the U.S.

Happy New Years' Stymie! How are things going in my favorite city (Chicago)? wink

I'll be at the Freedom to Funk stop here in Sacramento. Taking my 13 year old daughter who loves Cameo. This is a great chance for her to see some really good bands all in one night. Can't wait for this show!
