Man, many folks on here, including moi' loves Teena. Have all of her shit. She's a Venice Beach native which means she's a Z Girl. Went to Venice High. Anyway, my fave album is Emerald City. This should have been P's follow-up to Purple Rain. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I love Teena Marie. She has got to be the baddest and funkiest white woman on the planet. Color never meant shit to her either. She was totally comfortable in a venue being one of the only white people surrounded by 10,000 or more blacks. It didn't mean shit to her either to date outside her race and not give a damn if anyone liked it or not. Long before hip hop came along and made it more "safe" or "acceptable" for a white person to be this way, there was Teena Marie and "me". Andy is a four letter word.

The three albums below...
'Irons In The Fire' 'It Must Be Magic' 'Lady T' are straight up must haves. Which is not to say that you shouldn't also get 'Wild & Peaceful', "Robbery", "Starchild", & "Emerald City" too because they ALSO have some STRAIGHT UP classic gems on each of em..all i'm saying is that if you can't buy em ALL at once then id say start with those first three... 'Irons In The Fire' 'It Must Be Magic' 'Lady T' go get em now and THEN i DARE you to tell me that Teena wasn't the shit...

To me, Lady T has more soul than Mariah or Whitney. "I've been called Casper, Shorty, Li'l Bit And some they call me Vanilla Child But you know that don't mean my world to me 'Cause baby names can't cramp my style!"

My absolute fav female singer... I'm hard pressed to think of ANY female with as much talent as she.... And it still burns me up to think of when Madonna dissed her back in the day, when she doesn't have a tenth of Lady T's musical ability!

The only thing Madonna has over Lady T is marketing.

Ran a thread on the cut "You So Heavy" and nobody wanted to know about it, which surprised me. It's one of her best cuts. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Love Ms. Teena Marie. One of my all time favorite female singers.
to Lady T who couldn't even get her picture on the cover of her first album because Motown didn't think black people would buy an r&b album by a white artist. I guess she (and we) showed them huh... By the way does anyone remember the album cover of her on the front is pigtails and a baseball cap or something. Or was that an extended remix? I remember being at someone's house any seeing it and wondering when it came out. . [Edited 1/4/06 12:24pm] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

LOVE, LOVE Lady T!
SHe's more like the female Sheila E in a way, in that she's the female protege of Rick who is a true musician in her own right (although Rick probably taught Teena more than Prince taught Sheila). HOw did Madonna dis her?
