The answer is "Yes". But you have the albums - you can read the liner notes just as well as we can lol

This sounds like a bait thread.

I'm assuming the title track from Rhythm Nation was her first sample?

Yes. Most of the samples from the RN and janet. eras are subtle or short (ex. Someday We'll Be Together strings on You Want This). For the past 2 albums, the singles are generally the only tracks with samples, and those samples are often direct. On the whole, she actually samples LESS now than she used to, but people don't notice that because the samples she does use are blatant and those tracks often become singles.

Hey, I used to be a HUGE fan when I was 12. Almost obsessed. I don't really know what changed. One of my mates who despises Janet always lectures me about still buying her stuff on the first day of release.

hmmm Didn't Roxanne Shante sue Janet for using an uncredited sample of hers in "Like You Don't Love Me"? I'm not trying to use that against her; I'm just curious.

The sample was a vocal snippet of Roxanne's "So fresh, so fresh" (apparently). Roxanne said she wasn't paid for it. I have no idea what happened to the case; she probably got her money from the producers. They should have just had Janet resing the line rolleyes

Actually, as we've established, she doesn't sample that much compared to her contemporaries.

yup... but Ooh Child is credited in the Linear Notes of All 4 U i don't know if Bill Withers is or not in Secret.

really it samples don't bother me, just when people bring up samples as a way of discrediting artist and not saying the same about the other artists that do it.

i guess i'm not a music snob cause i don't mind lypsynching at a concert either.

How do you know what songs you are listening to if you threw out all the booklets?

That's a sample (I had forgotten about it when I did my original listings a few posts up); what Madonna did IMHO was a blatant uncredited ripoff. Hearing the guitar riff in a 30-year-old song made me like Secret a lot less than I used to. sad

intresting when Shante hit up Janets peeps for her royalties...they told her it wasn't her that was sampled...now anyone who knows hip hop knows that is from Roxanne Shante's "Def Fresh Crew". This is not the first Roxanne Janet sampled either...she samplede The Real Roxanne's "Bang Zoom let's go" for her 1993 hit "If"

Most of today's R&B is based on samples,in one form or another. What's sad is,Jam and Lewis are real musicians. They,of all people, shouldn't have to resort to sampling.Leave that to the hip-hop producers.

Um, no.

Mariah's "Emotions" is a direct rip-off of it, though.
