the days of the 10+ seller i think are over. Indeed. Only seven albums released during this decade have received diamond certification from the RIAA for sales over 10 million. One of those was a greatest hits set and another was a double disc set (5 million units actually sold): (2000) N Sync - No Strings Attached - 11 million (2000) The Beatles - 1 - 10 million (2000) Britney Spears - Oops...I Did It Again - 10 million (2000) Linkin Park - Hybrid Theory - 10 million (2002) Norah Jones - Come Away with Me - 10 million (2002) Shania Twain - Up - 11 million (2003) Outkast - Speakerboxxx/The Love Below - 10 million

Those year end tally's are inaccurate. You can add 480,000 copies minimum onto "MIMI" since that 6.9million figure was reached two weeks ago. Since then she sold 190,000 and 290,000 in the preceeding weeks in the US alone. So the actual year end figure for that album is 500,000 more minimum.

Also, the top album of 2001 would have been Invincible since it sold between 9-11million copies.

[Edited 1/1/06 3:28am] You are correct. I should have prefaced my post by saying those were USA sales only. My point was that not long ago the list ehuff posted could have been USA sales only, but they're worldwide figures.

It sold a little over 5 million. It got double-disc credit, just like OutKast did.

US sales only. Diamond is 10 million sold in the US (since every country has different gold/platinum standards).

the days of the 10+ seller i think are over. Exactly. That's why many artists (and their labels) need to lower their expectations. If Madonna can sell around 7 or 8 million copies worldwide (a very likely figure for COADF),then I consider that a success.Anyone expecting her CD to sell like 'True Blue' or 'Like A Virgin' needs a reality check.

I'm thrilled that their album is doing so well. It's one of the best CDs I bought in 2005."Feel Good Inc" and "Dare" are excellent singles.

Well if everyone would just buy three copies of it like I did (regular CD, the non-stop mix on Itunes and the deluxe edtion), then she we can get it up there (and I'm tempted to buy a forth, or would that be overkill)?

According to an article published in Billboard at the beginning of 2002. MJ's Invincible was the world's #11 best selling album of 2001 selling 5.4 million units. Not bad at all considering the album was only available for two months in 2001.
I think Janet's All For You came in with 5.1 million that year.
