TEENA MARIE"S NEW CD

Hey y'all Teena marie is releasing her new cd in spring of 2006 and it is going to be called SAPHIRE. I cannot wait. I am going to see her on new years eve in Detroit at the fox theater and her opening act is going to be Charlie Wilson from the Gap Band. Holla. Peace out

U know it has to be. I have every single one of Teena's albums and this one will be different; I'm getting it!

I hated most of La Dona. I can't believe DavidEye liked it, what with all the hip-hop stylings and fucking cheap Cash Money guest rappers (ARGH!). I will LISTEN before I buy this time.

La Dona was crap! lol It was Teena trying her hardest to stay relevant. On the other hand, the re-issue of Robbery that came out earlier this year was really good. Teena is annoying sometimes and she does some stupid shit with her voice that makes me nuts, but when she's on, she's on!

I totally agree with the hip hop thang. She needs to do what she truly does best. and that is straight up R&B AND funk. She doesnt need all these rappers on her cds. I understand why she did it because she needed to push this last album to get her back on the seen but now I hope to hear just some straight u[p Teena blowing like only she can. Peace Y'all

Agree... had to burn an edit of La Donna with the 4 or 5 tracks minus the rap... Anyone know of a good Teena site besides the one at Cash Money to get the latest info??

I totally agree with getting rid of that DAMN hip hop. While she's blending genres, one of them better be funk. biggrin

Yes,there are a few guest rappers and some hip-hop beats on certain songs, but there is still alot of solid R&B music here, too.Go back and listen to tracks like "My Body's Hungry","Baby I'm Your Fiend","High Yellow Girl" and the title track. With great songs like that,I can excuse her for the occasional misguided gimmicks, which thankfully do not dominate the whole CD.

and might I add...."Honey Call" is the best song Teena has done in years, even with it's hip-hop stylings. If you guys would stop nitpicking and give the album a chance, you'd find some great songs here.

No, I will never be able to bring myself to like this record. I don't consider it strong R&B at all. Most of it isn't even R&B - it's hip-hop. And I'm with vainandy when it comes to hip-hop. Teena Marie needs to get back to soul & funk and drop these lame efforts to sound current.

But I must admit you're right, DavidEye, when you say "Honey Call" is the best song Teena has done in years - considering she hadn't released a record in 14 years before this trash dropped lol (I am not counting Passion Play)

You have to understand that,it's really hard for Old School R&B/funk artists these days.Funk is dead,as far as these labels are concerned. That's why folks like The Isley Brothers and Charlie Wilson aren't exactly funking it up like they used to.Teena is fortunate to even have a recording contract at all.If she were to record the type of album you and Vainandy want (basically 'It Must Be Magic' Part 2),no record label would even release it.For the most part, she has to make a contemporary sounding album,at least as long as she is signed to a major label. All things considered,I think she did a good job. There's only two overtly hip-hop songs ("The Macking Game" and "Recycle Hate To Love"),which I always skip over.If you can't hear the genuine soul in a song like "My Body's Hungry",you may need to clean out your ears.

I love Teena and it's a sad reflection on the game today that hip-hop, no musical talent wanna-be gangstas sell more than those with true soul. I didn't like all that hip-hop on La Dona, but it was her "Rave", what she had to do in order to get released.

I wish the musical public could open their eyes to what real music can be, listening to the real beats rather than the recycled samples they've accepted as "music".

Hear where it all came from--don't settle for the pretenders.

That's one of the few songs on the record I can listen to; in total there are about 4 or 5.
