Stravinsky So, what do you people think of Igor Stravinsky?
Our marching band's performing a completely Stravinsky show this year. (Yes, I'm in band..But not a band rat/geek. There IS a difference.) Firebird, the Rite of Spring, and something else...We don't actually have the music yet, but...Anyhow. Yeah, talk about Stravinsky! -------
A census taker once tried to test me. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti... "I've just had an apostrophe!" "I think you mean an epiphany..."

I have always loved "Le Sacre du printemps" (The Rite of Spring) which is unusual because I'm not a big classical guy. I also enjoy the chamber piece "Septet"
My thought is that your band teacher is odd to only include one composer in a show. Variety is nice.

You sure the band leader isn't yanking your chain? I've never seen a Stravinsky score, but from what I've heard of his work, it's going to be more than a little complicated. BTW, I was in a school band too -- we played pop songs and a little token classical, but nothing complicated. I played a lot of baroque stuff outside the school though.

This will be my 3rd year in marching band, and the Stravinsky pieces we're doing are the most SIMPLE pieces I've seen yet, in all my years of band. Except maybe 6th grade beginning concert band...
Last year we marched a fast show, so Ackerman wanted to slow it down and do this. If any of you are familiar with DCI, we performed the 2000 show for the Cadets...Which they tied for champions with the Blue Devils, I do believe. I don't know, whoever it was who did Niagra Falls. Anyways, the Stravinsky music is quite nice... And simple. Ackerman won't let us do pop songs. And really, I think most bands who perform songs such as, in the past year, there was a bunch of bands who did Beetles shows, sound rather cheesy...But that's just my own opinion. It's good for pep band, but not for marching/concert. In the past 2 years for concert festival, we've performed "The Hounds of Spring" and "Caccia and Chorale." And Aerogram, you band nerd -------

Doing Stravinsky justice would have been very complicated for us.
