The lowest point of Rick James' music career

His personal life had a lot of low points, but as far as his music goes, what was the lowest point of his career?

SenseOfDoubt

btw, just a few moments ago I found out that he died in 2004! I did not hear a word (had no internet that time). Hm. I think he paid the bill.

Last week I was damn near to get the 2cd street... song(?) cd, but it was a little bit too expensive. Though there is not a lot out there by the man.

Rick James
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
James Ambrose Johnson, Jr, better known as Rick James, (February 1, 1948 – August 6, 2004) was an American funk and soul musician, who worked as a singer, keyboardist, bassist, record producer, arranger, and composer during his long career.
Personal problems and decline (in answer to post)
As the 1980s segued into the 1990s, the dark side of James' life began to overpower his music. He was a recreational drug user, addicted mainly to cocaine. In 1993, James was convicted of assaulting two women, with the first assault during one of his cocaine binges. Serving two years in Folsom Prison did not stop him from writing new songs, even if he did it behind bars. He was released in 1995, and during interviews for a segment of the VH1 series Behind The Music, he spoke openly about his life and his battle with drugs for the first time.
Rick James attempted a comeback with a new album and tour in 1997, but suffered a mild stroke during a concert in Denver, Colorado, effectively ending his musical career.

answer re:*lowest point*
By the late '80s, James' career had started to flounder, but he returned to the public eye in 1990, when the rapper MC Hammer sampled the bass hook from "Super Freak" for "U Can't Touch This," which became one of the biggest sellers in hip-hop history. The song's blatant and unauthorized use of the sample prompted James to sue. The case was settled out of court, and James obtained writing credits on the song for himself and Alonzo Miller, his co-writer on "Super Freak."
"U Can't Touch This" then won the Grammy Award, for best rhythm and blues song, which James shared with MC Hammer and Miller. It was James' only Grammy.

The stage was set for a big comeback, but instead *James' career hit its lowest point* with a series of drug-related misadventures that eventually landed him in jail. In incidents that were reported widely by the news media, he set himself on fire with a crack pipe and was arrested for assaults on two women; in one case the charges were later dropped.

It might be surprising, but I would say now...not being able to get his final, posthumous album out even though a year ago people were all about Rick James! Very sad.

that little swan dive he did with Teena Marie, all out of breath and out of tune. It was worse than listening to Tiny Tim. FUCK!!!!!

And then right after that came the coolest moment - ("I'm Rick James, bitch!")
