What's your favorite industrial-goth artist(s)? I really love the Kidneythieves, but I would like to know names of other great bands in the same genre. If anyone likes industrial-goth, which is(are) one artist(s) that you would recommend, and what is it about their music that you like?

Seriously, I can give you a long list of pure goth bands I like and a list of pure industrial artists also, but as for bands that straddle the line between the two, I can't think of that many that I like.
The first one that comes to mind is Collide. I have a few of their CDs and they're pretty good. Project Pitchfork might be considered industrial-goth, but I only have one best-of comp by them from like ten years ago. I don't even know if they are still around anymore. Snake River Conspiracy was a band from a few years ago that to me was in the same vein as the Kidneythieves so try looking them up. If you're willing to stretch the boundaries a little then the very first band I would recommend is Deadsy. Elijah Blue christened his group's sound as 'undercore', but my own description of them would be 'new-wave-doom-metal'. Novabreaker might be a better person to comment on this.

I used to live for this shit. I still go back to my roots and listen to them once in a while...especially Skinny Puppy. They are my favorite! I know I'm leaving out a bunch of others but I just can't think right now. There's always old Ministry too, Pigface, Swans...

I have no idea what an industrial-goth band is, though KMFDM or whatever they changed their name to (MDFKM) is not goth, not a fan of theres, though they make cool videos.

I myself started searching for goth music first due to curiosity and to the enigmatic presence that people who call themselves "goths" emanate. Then, I had a taste of goth by listening to Rasputina, but I didn't like Melora's small and thin voice. One day, while browsing the racks at BestBuy, the cover of the Kidneythieves' second album caught my attention. CarrieLee & sextonseven: Is there an online store that you prefer? I've shopped at www.isotank.com and even though they allow you to register, the site doesn't allow you to track your order. The only one thing I like about their site is that they give good descriptions of album styles and genres. The magazine that came along with my order was cool, but I bet that there are more uncedground magazines that don't make it to Barnes & Noble and other similar stores.

Outburn is good big glossy magazine for industrial, goth, punk and metal artists. Gothic Beauty magazine concentrates more on gothic fashion and lifestyle, but covers music also. Isolation Tank is probably the best online site I know for goth and industrial artists. Middle Pillar isn't bad either but I think they concentrate more on goth and experimental and not industrial music as much. Projekt is another good site, but they also specialize more in gothic and ethereal music. The biggest goth/industrial record label today is Metropolis Records. They might have a mail order service on their website so check them out too.

One day, while browsing the racks at BestBuy, the cover of the Kidneythieves' second album caught my attention. This part of your post wasn't directed towards me, but I'll answer it anyway. Rasputina is a great band--one of my favorites--but I don't think they are an accurate representation of goth music. If you're really looking to get into gothic rock, then I suggest you start with the classic bands first: Bauhaus Fields Of The Nephilim The Sisters Of Mercy I have all their albums and their respective best-of compilations are fairly good starting points, then you can get the individual studio records. You really can't miss with the above three. Then you can move on to the next lower tier of goth artists: Alien Sex Fiend Christian Death (The first three albums are the best. Avoid anything after 1992.) Sex Gang Children (very spotty) Virgin Prunes ('If I Die, I Die' is a must have album) Mephisto Walz London After Midnight Rosetta Stone Xmal Deutschland Then there are bands that began their careers as goth, but evolved into generic alternative or something else. Of these bands, the earliest stuff obviously sounds the most gothic. Stay away from their later recordings: Southern Death Cult/Death Cult/The Cult All About Eve Gene Loves Jezebel The Mission U.K. Finally, these current goth bands I think are very good: Faith And The Muse Audra Frank The Baptist Clearly I've barely scratched the surface of the world that is gothic rock. There's so much more niches within the genre or other types of music that appeal to goths (like synth-pop and EBM), but in my opinion these are the bands that represent goth the best and are a good starting point.

When I was a young goth in the 80s I used to love this L.A. band Kommunity F.K..Their song Something Inside Me Has Died & corresponding video was the bomb.& they were around before the term Goth was used circa 1978.Other good L.A. goth/punk bands around the same time were Christian Death,45 Grave, & T.S.O.L.

That's the early L.A. death rock scene you're talking about. Very cool. I saw Kommunity FK live when they reunited in the mid-90s. I still have their two '80s albums, 'The Vision And The Voice' and 'Close One Sad Eye'. Good stuff.

Rasputina is a band that has lots of goth appeal, but I consider them to be more of an off-the-wall alternative group--somewhat sinister, but not quite there like: The Cure Siouxsie And The Banshees Cranes Cocteau Twins Dead Can Dance HIM etc. band edit [Edited 12/8/05 16:14pm]

Sorry, I meant to answer your question earlier. Liabach is industrial in the same vein as KMFDM. Nothing really goth about them. I remember Liabach's "Life Is Life" was a dancefloor staple in industrial clubs in the early 90s.

I found it to be racist and condescending towards Bolivians. My distaste with Melora's voice came after this.
