Depending on the selection, I can easily spend hours in one store just scouring.

Usually, I'm in the R&B/Urban section and the valued CD ($7.99, $8.99. $9.99. or $10.99) sections.

Whenever I go into a record store..I usually look for stuff I don't have by:

Michael Jackson

Beyond that, I look for my regulars (The Jacksons, Prince, George Michael, Inxs, Billy Joel, Matchbox Twenty)

I've also lately been looking for any Wendy and Lisa albums and the Michael Hutchence driven side project "Max Q." I realize I could probably find both on amazon or ebay, but I really want to find them locally. Maybe eventually one day I will give in and buy them on the net. However, till then it is fun to look locally and keep my hope alive.

If you mean a certain "style" of music I'd be found in at the music store, it would probably be "Pop" or "R&B."

There are lots of fantastic records stores near me. I spend most my time in USED ROCK, a bit of time in R&B, JAZZ, CLASSICAL, HIP HOP, WORLD, SOUNDTRACKS, PUNK, anything else. Mostly browse though, can't afford much. I like to get deals hiding under the tables for $3-4. I almost always buy alternative rock or classical or something different like Orson Welles' old radio shows. biggrin

I can't really find the music I mostly listen to at any of the stores, so I just order the stuff from the internet. There are some specialist ones, but as I get the music cheaper off the net I'm accustomed to using it instead by now.

However, I still sometimes do hang at record stores, because that's what we used to do as teenagers. And I can't completely shake off that thing, sometimes I buy a record or two from the bargain bin.

I can be found all over store, but I take special care to stay away from the Bluegrass and Country sections.....

I've been ordering more music online these past couple of years, but if I have a strong list of maybe 5 or more must haves, then I'll go to Amoeba, which is maybe four times a year at the most. In Amoeba, I start in the Used R&B/dance/disco section, then work my way to used Rock and then the newer sections for all those sections. Once in a while I will check out jazz, soundtracks, and world music. Virgin is close to work, so I'll stop by there a couple of times a month and look for $10 cds or deals.

R&B/Soul
all the way

i hardly ever buy used. i still like the new packaging and a clean cd with all the full vibrant album art. im also a sucker for remasters.

i often also check on my favorite artists' bins of cds i already have to see which albums are in the most demand. anyone else do that?

I could easily spend a couple of hours in there. Last time, I spent $99 and some change on music. It's overwhelming, but at the same time a wonderful music shopping experience especially if you find what you are looking for and some surprises.

I think you would be in heaven at Amoeba's Jazz section. Classic R&B is pretty good, but not as vast as jazz.
