Greatest Radio Station Ever: "The Current"

I have to say, our Minneapolis orgers have let us down by not posting repeatedly that we MUST listen to the web stream of 89.3 "The Current."
http://minnesota.publicra...e_current/

It is without a doubt the greatest radio station I have ever heard. Non-commercial, all music, with great DJs who are free to play what they want to hear, and not just what their bosses want to hear.

Current playlist:
Chocolate Genius Inc - Forever Everyone
Arcade Fire - Cold Wind
Kirsty MacColl - Miss Otis Regrets
Toshi Reagon - Didn't I Tell You
Yo La Tengo - You Can Have It All

Great stuff. I'm whipping out my paypal right now. Check it out.

That looks good too....what's up with all the great radio there? It's dire out here in NY, really lousy radio, which makes no sense.

I just love that 89.3 is music all the time, and electic too (though I haven't heard much current R&B on it)

It's a little confusing to set up (on a Mac at least...had to use something called VLC player) but definitely worth it for a nice CD-quality stream. Just had to read the instruction page a few times. confused

i think it's because here in the twin cities the musical climate's a helluva lot more diverse--yeah, we've got the clear channel boolshit too, but there's people out there who know better than to stay away from that junk and provide something better for those of us who want something other than the top 40 stuff. nod

the only radio i really listen to is internet radio...i listen to kfai a lot (there's a weekly punk rock show on there that i listen to religiously). i've heard a little bit of the current, but it's really not my cup of tea. i like kfai a lot better, because there's more diverse stuff on it; the current's more for the indie set.

Internet radio is changing everything. It's really fun to explore other region's radio, listen to local news, etc. I just get so nervous about good stations folding, I end up spending my CD budget in donations.

It is a good station, and Mpls Orgers did talk it up here a lot when it first went on air. And, yes, since it's public radio, no commercials! woot!

They said something about being funded in part by First Avenue, making it extra woot!

Unless you count the endless begging for donations. Me personally...I would prefer commericials.

shrug They've gotta pay for it somehow. I'd rather have somebody ask me for my money, then try to sell me beer or high speed internet.

yeah, i heard a lot of that, but the chick who was DJing when i was listening was actually really entertaining about it...she got all existential and absurd about why people should send money, and she actually made me laugh. if you can be a creative shill, then go on ahead and make that money, i don't care.

I really liked the station and the freedom of music playing with no commercials. I just can't stomach the only knowing 1 out of 50 songs played. I guess if you are really into underground and local music you would really love this station but for me,I will just stick to "Drive 105" and such.

I like your station, but unfortunately, I'm on a Mac and so I can't get the better quality stream. I'm just enough of an audio snob for that to keep me from listening biggrin

Woxy is nice, but they don't play anything outside the indie rock realm, do they? And they're one of those stations that won't play hip hop unless it's the Beasties or something.

In reality I shouldn't be on this thread because I don't listen to music on the radio much. I have been a talk show junkie since the 6th grade. I listen to KFAN, KSTP, Air America, etc. The only time I listen to music is when I run but everytime I turn on the Current its something obscure or they are begging for money.

When listening to the FM dial I guess I prefer KQRS (love classic rock) or JACK which probably plays a wider of a variety of music as The Current but its stuff you know or vaguely remember. I mean the other day they played Tom Jones version of Kiss lol

The Twin Cities smooth Jazz station is switching formats to talk with Rush Limbaugh moving there so I guess I may find myself on the fm dial a little more.

Also I hate 105 lol Me and Amy do not have the same tastes in music.
