And he turned perhaps my favorite song of all time Stevie Wonders Superwoman almost even better than the original on the Sounds.. And Stuff Like That!! album.

He's called jazz, but his style of jazz seems very pop. I know way back when he worked with the heavys--Frank, Miles, Sarah Vaughn--but in the 70's was he really a force in jazz? Killer Joe? I don't know. And was he a composer? Musician? Arranger? Or just producer?

And I disagree about Superwoman. Also What's Goin' On just doesn't move me like Marvin's.

It seems like his brand of "genius" is more like (this is not a perfect analogy, but) Madonna's--as someone who knows what people will like. Now, like I said way back when, maybe his arrangements were genius, I don't know. But Body Heat is just a great pop song, I wouldn't call it genius. And I don't think he wrote it.

But there's no disputing the beauty of the production on Suff Like That, Off the Wall, etc.

but dont most people hate 'bad', saying thats where michael muic went wrong. i think people forget quincy produced that.

A lot of ppl seem to think that Quincy made MJ's music great, it was MJ that made Billie Jean all by himself, listen to the demo which sounds practically the same as the finished version. Quincy simply gave MJ advice and assistance in the studio.

The reason Invincible wasnt as great as Thriller was because of Michael Jackson, not because Quincy wasnt producing it.

Q is great outside of his work with Michael . His jazz cuts are great, and other artists he's worked with have to give him serious props....

I was merely mentioning MJ let Q leave his circle..or whatever. I wasn't talking about the music. Quincy is a very powerful man and protected MJ...as well as being a mentor. Had he not left the MJ camp, MJ would probably not had as many issues as he does now. At least that's what my buddy's dad (an exec from one of the major studios) said.

A legend in popular music and it has nothing to do with Thriller and everything to do with his place in music history (jazz especially).

um, i dont really understand the comparison with Rod Temperton, Rod wrote a few songs for Michael, i.e. he was a songwriter, but Michael made the music behind the lyrics.

Clearly u dont own any of the Special Edition MJ albums with all the demos, where MJ creates the music at home practically in perfect condition. Quincy even states this himself, that he was simply an advisor. The fact that MJ is the biggest artist on the planet has very little to do with Quincy Jones, he was in the picture just the same as Jam/Lewis and Teddy Riley. MJ is the biggest artist in the world because HE is talented.

Quincy Jones is one of those American music icons that if it weren't for his association with a handfull of Pop stars like Michael Jackson (or writing the Sanford and Son theme) most Pop music fans wouldn't even know existed.

Not even counting his Jazz affiliations, film scores and numerous arrangements and orchestrations, his Pop contributions go back as far as Lesley Gore's It's My Party.

Do yourself a favor and listen the Theme from The Pawnbroker (sung by Sarah Vaughn) or Who Needs Forever? (sung by Astrud Gilberto) as a small example of the musical depth that is Q.

Quincy is a genuis,indeed.His 70s albums are incredible.However,I don't like his recent albums.Too many damn guest stars and rappers!! I bought his 1995 album 'Q's Jook Joint' but I eventually sold it....I wanna hear Quincy,not a bunch of rappers! Unfortunately,he is still continuing down this tired road.His upcoming CD will feature Snoop and Dr.Dre on a track
