The Orgeys

Well, now that we are actually approaching the end of the year 2005, it's time that we establish our own best of list for the year in music. Who needs the Grammys, AMA's, RMA's or Billboard awards when they can have an Orgey (OR' gee)?

music headbang fro woot! guitar hug thumbs up!

Well, now that the year is about over, it's time to get to our top lists.

ARTIST OF THE YEAR:
Kanye West
You may love him; you may think he's an arrogant asshole who is full of himself, but he put out the best music this year, and he continues to nurture other artists like Common and John Legend. Each of them have been nominated for multiple Grammys. He also isn't afraid to speak his mind on controversial subjects, as was witnessed during the Hurrican Katrina benefit where he went off on President Bush. He also is putting out the most socially relevant hip-hop since Public Enemy and N.W.A.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR (Released in 2005):
1. Late Registration - Kanye West
2. The Emancipation of Mimi - Mariah Carey
3. Be - Common
4. Guero - Beck
5. X&Y - Coldplay

WORST ALBUM: rolleyes mad omfg barf doh! disbelief
United State of Atlanta - Ying Yang Twins

SONG OF THE YEAR (Charted in 2005):
1. Heard 'Em Say - Kanye West feat. Adam Levine
2. We Belong Together - Mariah Carey
3. Boulevard of Broken Dreams - Green Day
4. Mr. Brightside - The Killers
5. Hollaback Girl - Gwen Stefani

WORST SONG:
Laffy Taffy - D4L

BEST BAND:
1. Green Day
2. Arcade Fire
3. System of a Down
4. Coldplay
5. U2

WORST BAND:
The Rolling Stones

BEST MALE SINGER:
1. Beck
2. John Legend
3. Anthony Hamilton
4. Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley
5. R. Kelly

WORST MALE SINGER:
Toby Keith

BEST FEMALE SINGER:
1. Mariah Carey
2. Gwen Stefani
3. Kelly Clarkson
4. Madonna
5. Alicia Keys

WORST FEMALE SINGER:
Jennifer Lopez

BEST HIP HOP ACT:
1. Common
2. Kanye West
3. T.I.
4. Ludacris
5. The Game

WORST HIP HOP ACT:
[Tie]Ying Yang Twins and Black Eyed Peas

BEST NEW ARTIST:
1. John Legend
2. M.I.A.
3. LCD Soundsystem
4. Fall Out Boy
5. Anna Nalick

WORST NEW ARTIST:
Lindsay Lohan

BIGGEST SELLOUT:
Black Eyed Peas

COMEBACK OF THE YEAR:
1. Paul McCartney
2. Stevie Wonder
3. Backstreet Boys
4. Nine Inch Nails
5. Kate Bush
Note: I didn't put Mariah Carey in this list because she never actually went away. She may not have been as popular as she has been in the past few years, but she guested on a few hit singles since 2001. Anyway, Sir Paul gets the nod here since his album was nominated for a Grammy and he had a hugely successful tour.

PLEASE GO AWAY AGAIN ALREADY:
The Rolling Stones

BIGGEST TREND:
Increase in digital music and accessories

MOST OVERHYPED TREND:
B-list pop diva couples (Nick and Jessica, Britney and Kevin)

MOST UNDER THE RADAR TREND:
MySpace.com

THIS is a great idea! Let's make it an annual affair...
