Black Buddafly - the next DC or just another Allure, Pure Soul, etc.? Who's seen these girls' new video and heard their song Rock-a-bye? Just wondering if anyone has formed any opinions of them yet?

Pure Soul could actually sing... I am not African. Africa is in me, but I cannot return.
I am not taína. Taíno is in me, but there is no way back. I am not european. Europe lives in me, but I have no home there. I am new. History made me. My first language was spanglish. And I am

Yeah, they were pretty good. I just meant in the one hit wonder sense, not in the talent sense.

do we have to ghettoize butterfly.....for real. Also the fact that they have skipped right to the Bleached Beyoncé period of DC3. Which was just about the time DC3 started to suck royally. [Edited 12/28/05 6:04am]

do we have to ghettoize butterfly.....for real. I hate that shit! I was just talking to my wife about how most of the "Black" movies at the video store have "da" instead of "the" in the title. And a z at the end of a word instead of an s (ex: Girlz in da Place) [Edited 12/28/05 9:54am]

Actually, I think the name "Black Butterfly" is already taken by another artist. A respelling is the only way they could have gotten away with using it without "sueage".
After seeing the video, Destiny's Child meets Vanity 6 comes to mind as the concept for the group [Edited 12/28/05 10:05am]

After seeing the video, Destiny's Child meets Vanity 6 comes to mind as the concept for the group I checked Allmusic.com for the name "Black Butterfly" but did not see any listings or releases under that band name. That doesn't mean the name has not been taken by someone else though; it could be a case where some novel or play uses that name and the girls did not want to pay for the licensing rights. Nevertheless, the very ghetto-ization of that name will likely end up marginalizing the group and limiting whatever success they have, even if they had the talent to be the next Supremes. Da Beatulz! Da Rollin' Stonz! Da Byrdz!

The first i've heard of them. Nothing unique to my ears (song/performance wise).
I guess somebody's got to fill the marketing hole left by DC. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...dID=182431 "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I remember them too. I don't know what is sadder about that group though; the fact that they got left hanging in the wind after Mariah dumped Tommy Mottola and he disbanded her record label as a result, or the fact that they got signed to a record label owned by Ron Artest just as he went off on those fans during the Detroit Pistons game last year.

I know they're desperate and all, but why the hell would you put your trust in a record label owned by Ron Artest? looking for you in the woods tonight Switch FC SW-2874-2863-4789 (Rum&Coke)

Black butterfly is the name of a Denise Williams song...could that stop them from using it? We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color. Maya Angelou
